Im not sure, but while your on this end of the world thing you should check out the mayan calander research. Its on a similiar tangent, but basically an amazingly advanced civilization 2000 years ago was able to predict the end of time. They were able to predict winter and summer equinoxes thousands of years before they even happened. They even had such an incredible understanding of astronomy and time that they were able to accurately predict the actual time within 8 seconds.
Anyway, yada yada yada....
They say that the end of time occurs close to 2012

Yes, unless an asteroid hit. There is no way that humans could ever destroy the earth even if they wanted to. Now, humans may be gone in 20 years but i doubt that

We've seen worse and we'll see worse. We haven't the capacity to destroy it. We do have the capacity to make things really difficult for a really lot of folks though.
