The much older generations are the worst. Men have admitted to me that they treated their ex-wives like slaves and like an old testament harlot, or ways that women were treated in the Old testament. This generation is getting better though. But it makes me not to want to marry because the chances of getting married to a Christian man that'll treat you like a slave are very high. Is it better to marry a nice secular guy that treats you better than most Christian men would? or what? State your ideas.

That is because they are not really christian. If they were truly Christan then woman would be treated as a complement and an equal and with respect.

It was due to the false teachings of churches in days past. As more people started reading the Bible the churches have had to change what they teach, because the hypocrisy was seen.

Churches still have a long way to go in changing what the preach to bring it in line with true Christianity

Well, just a minute ago I saw another question from you about NOT reading the Old Testament. If you don't read the OT, then how do you know how they treated their women?
Maybe when Christian women start acting the way God would have them act, their husbands will start treating them like the Bible says they should be treated. All the Christian men I know treat their wives way better than they should. Most of the wives aren't submissive in the least, which is what the Bible says we should be. A husband should act like the head of the household. His family is his moral responsibilty. Too many women want to boss their husbands around, and too many men let them. They also prance around half dressed, showing their body to other men, when it belongs to their husbands. But that's a whole 'nother can of worms.

Before I answer I think you dont know much about the old testament. The wives were treated very well in the old testament. I dont recall any stories of treating wives like slaves harlots or the like. Maybe I read the censored version... To answer your question it seems like you are over generalizing the male Christian population. I doubt this is as big a problem as you are making it out to be.

You obviously have two issues one is the way older men treat their ex wives and not wanting to marry a Christian man. Women were treated differently back then, not because they were Christian or non Christian. They did not have equal rights or anything. How can you sit their and blame that on Christian men when society made it so women were not equal ( they were treated basically like slaves). Your second issue as to whether or not to marry a Christian man, I would say I think you would be better off not marrying one. Your narrow-mindedness might corrupt his way of thinking and might turn him from Jesus. I will pray for you. God Bless.

Christian men who treat women that way haven't been taught the real meaning of how the Bible says to treat women. It says for men to honor their wives. A real Christian man would be better in my opinion. My ex-husband was a secular guy who I thought was nice, but he didn't treat me any better. That's why it's important to get to know a guy really well. There will be signs if he is going to be abusive. You have to watch for those signs.

I don't believe for a minute that a Christian man would say to you they treat their wives like a slave. It sounds like someone did something that you didn't like or agree with and this is how you're getting even.

Not nice.

REAL Christian men do know how to treat women in a godly and loving way. They take Ephesian 5 out of context and ignore the rest of the verses of the same chapter.

REAL Christian men "treat their wives as their own bodies; for as a man hateth not his own flesh, so shall he and his wife become one flesh."

If every man was a CHRISTIAN (in reality), there would never again be any spousal or child abuse. The abuse comes from those who abuse and manipulate the Bible for their own benefit instead of doing all that it really teaches.

Many Christian men do not do their own thinking in reality to the actual woman they are dating or married to. It seems they are out of touch with the reality of How to treat and individual woman personally, and instead apply general rules of conduct established by Biblical standards that are unrealistic. The women can help by pointing this out, and helping her man to learn how to love HER! One definite approach is to insist that he apply the "Golden Rule" in the romantic relationship and treat her how he would like to be treated...IF HE WAS THE WOMAN!

I don't think it has to do with men being Christian...Christian or not, there are a lot of men out there who treat women like sh**.....it depends on the guy and whether he's man enough to treat his woman right......

First, not all Christian men treat their wives badly. You may have seen bad examples of "so-called" Christian men in your culture/society. I do agree there are men who claim to be Christian who don't treat their wives properly.
Being a Christian is to be Christlike--to act like Christ Jesus, to walk righteously like he did, clean conduct, LOVING like he is. Kind like he is. Merciful like he is. Like he was when he walked this earth.
When a man (or woman) has such qualities that are evident in their lives and how they treat others, then they can be called a Christian because they are Christlike. No one should claim to be one. Others should make that claim for them because they can see it by the way that person conducts their life.
Many men are under the old impression that a woman belongs to him like property which was the old custom of the Israelites in times past. That wasn't as bad as it seems back then. If a man wanted a wife, he had to buy her from her father who set the price. If the price was too high in the eyes of the prospective husband, this told the father and the young bride just how valuable the young man considered her to be. If he didn't bark at the price, he knew she was worth that and more. The reason God required Israel to do it that way was because of his wisdom and the welfare of the girl. Have you ever given something of great value to someone they didn't work for? Like a car? Then a month or so later, the car is dirty and in bad repair? Because they didn't have to work for it, they didn't appreciate the value of it.
Now reverse that. But if they had to work for it, they'd treat the car well--wash it, keep it tuned, etc.
A real Christian man should read the bible. It is filled with wisdom and knowledge on how to treat women. I don't know if you know this, but God considers ALL men on earth his wife. When Jesus was on Earth, he paid a bridal dowry with his sacrifice. He considered us all worth the price. Because of this fact many people who read Proverbs 31:10-31--(the virtuous wife) think it only applies to women. But if God considers all men on earth Her wife, then it applies to men as well.
Lastly, all women on earth are the daughters of God. All men on earth are sons of God. A true Christian man doesn't have the right to treat God's daughters in any hostile, bullish way. But he should carry his wife lovingly through any weaknesses she may have. Just like Jesus treated his 12 disciples (wives on earth).
There is no excuse for a man who claims to be a Christian to treat his wife like a slave. If you know so called Christian men who treat their wives like slaves, then they are hypocrites and are not real Christians. Because that's not how Christ treated others when he was here on earth. He came here to save us and set an example for us on how we should treat others.
Should you be with a Christian or a secular person? If the so called Christian is behaving like Satan, he's not a Christian. Run from him. If you meet a so called non believer who is behaving lovingly and gently like Christ, keep him!
All good gifts are from God. The Bible says, if you see a man with a good woman, he has been blessed with a gift from God. Before you choose which man you will marry. Pray to God and ask him to send you a gift of a good man. I wish that for you.
Or take this advice: Don't worry so much about a man's religion and if he is going to treat you like a slave or not. Carry yourself in such a way that you WILL NOT be enslaved by anyone or anything, and you won't be.
