I'm the black sheep of my family, I don't get along with most people in my family. I'm moving to Cali from Indiana and I'm thinking about just cutting off all ties to my family. Is that a good thing to do?

Move far away, but don't cut off all ties just limit your contact with them to once a year.

well yes and no. It may seem like the right thing to do now because it seems like you are the blacksheep of the family but in the long run it may not be such a good idea. Maybe you can try moving to cali and not talking to them til you get your self settled and on your feet then maybe trying to have some sort of communication with them. Hope I helped in some way.

If you think it is most necessary, then go ahead. I understand where you come from. I cut off all ties with my family for four years until they apologized...in their own way. I only talk to them once in a while if they need something. But that's all. Just don't talk to them until they actually really really want to talk to you..

Off course not..family is important. Never thinking of being the black sheep of your family, it's only making your feeling worst. Just try to talk and get along with them. If you live far away from your family just make a phone call or send email. It's only you that can make yourself close to your family.

No don't cut ALL ties just get some space and cool your heels awhile. Distance can greatly improve some relationships.

While you don't have to be very close to family, i wouldn't cut them off completely. Family is important, you might regret it if you cut ties.

Well maybe not, see how it goes for the first week or two and go from there. You probably just need to get away. Phone calls wouldn't be too bad.

I would keep some kind of a tie with someone in the family to let you know if theirs some kind of family emergency that you might want to know.
