(1) Don't take chains, knives, lighters, tobacco products, studded belts, anything metal that can be construed as a weapon. You'll end up having to throw it away.
(2) Mark your personal bag well. Get one that has a zipper lock. It'll go into storage and you won't see it again for a long time - but that doesn't mean someone won't rifle through it or snatch it by accident thinking it's their bag.
(3) Take about $200 in cash with you in lower denominations ($5s, 10s). Hide it well. The chances you'll get to use it will be few and far between. Don't lend money to anyone for anything. Ever.
(4) Make two or three duplicates of your address book. Print it out on small font on a computer and have it laminated if at all possible. Stash it in several places so if your wallet gets stolen, you still have your numbers.
You'll be fine. Good luck.

Report in the best shape you can.
Do your best to stay under the radar in boot.
Enjoy yourself, your instructors are just acting; they don't really hate you. They don't have time.
Make friends.
Go to chapel services when they are offered (even if you aren't religious it is a good stress free break from the routine).
Take as little as possible with you.
Don't ask questions unless you are completely confused about what you are supposed to be doing.
Never be first, never be last.
Receive lots of mail. Take some sort of address book with you and make sure lots of people (friends, family, etc) know where you are going and that you want mail. A stack of postcards already stamped and ready to go, just waiting for you to put your address on it would be best.
Boot camp is about handling stress, those are the best tips I can give you for keeping the stress down.

My high school classmate joined the Coast Guard, I joined the Marines.
He got out as Vice Commandant of the Coast Guard. I got as a corporal, is that higher than a Vice Commandant?
Well, at least I never had to wear bows, buttons and a dixie cup on my head.

. Hey Boot !Have a great experience.I served in the navy aboard the Uss Valcour Avp55. in the Persian Gulf.Wish I could enlist again, but to old. Those were some of the greatest times in my life.Keep your nose clean and you will have no trouble.Once your through boot camp everything will settle down .And you will have a good time in boot also, if you don't let anything get to you.Remember your company commander is only doing a job and nothing personal.

Get in shape, bring lots of stamps and phone cards, get used to eating fast, get used to people yelling at you. Overall, try to free your mind of anything else and just concentrate in passing.
