From what I have read about this breed is that they live anywhere around 12-15 years and some around 17 years. It also depends on the care of your dog. What kind of food they eat and circumstances in your family that may happen. Just my opinion, raise your puppy on a food that contains NO BY PRODUCT. Which can be found at places like Petsmart and PetCo. NOT WAL-MART! No offence to Wal-mart because I do love that store, but not for my animals health. Hope I helped you out a little.

A true "teacup" chihuahua (meaning one that is under 2 pounds) generally aren't very healthy and can have a short life span. A chihuahua that fits in the breed standard of 2-6 pounds are usually healthier (though there can be problems on the low end of the weight chart) and live on average 15 years though living up to (and occasionally past) 20 isn't unheard of.

There really isn't such thing as a "teacup" chi anyway. And a lot of people who have the little 2 pounders will tell you that they are constantly concerned with the dog eating properly and many other health issues. Is a 4-6 pound dog really going to be too big? They have a much better chance of being healthy and living a long life with you.

Besides many "breeders" who use that term will take a pic of the puppy at 4-6 weeks and say that it is much older and you end up with a 12 pound "teacup" chihuahua. Trust me I've seen it happen. The term teacup is simply a way to jack up the price on you. Find a reputable breeder and get a "normal" chi.

Because of their small size, they can easily live to be 16+ years old, all things being equal. My grandmother had a Chihuahua that was almost 20 years old when it died.

Depends on breeding, health care, diet, etc.
