My childern want to earn money by doing chores, and I`ve decided to make a chore chart for them. I mean a chart with like Monday, Tuesday, exc. on the top, and then with the chore on the side. Kind of like a graph.

Get a big blank poster at the store and use a yard stick to make the grid with a black magic marker. Do seven lines down and however many children the number of lines across. Find clip art or use your own pictures and laminate them, cut them out and attach Velcro to the backside. Attach a small piece of Velcro on each square of your chart. Then assign the picture (a dog =feeding the pet, a dish=helping with dishes, trash can=taking the trash out, a rake=yard work and so on. Your kids could help you come up with the ideas that way they can take part in the process. Anyway, assign the picture to the child's row of what day to do it. Then when the child has completed the task, have them take the picture down and put it in an envelope that you have stapled to the bottom of the chart.

I have small children and they understand pictures a lot better and this might make it more fun for them. Good luck!

Not knowing what all programs you have on your computer, I will suggest using Wordpad, as it is included free with all versions of Windows

Start > All Programs > Accessories > Wordpad

Space over an inch or two, and type the days of the week
Below that list the chores
Put a line of underscores between each chore to give it a graph like look
Adjust the font size etc to make it look nice
Print it out
You can use a ruler and pen to make the vertical lines of you want

Use some colorful art paper with your columns added to it as you've described. It's exactly like a graph.

Use stars or check marks when the chore is completed.

Decide ahead of time how much each chore is worth & in what kind of time frame it has to be completed.

When the chore is done most excellently and without any prodding from you, give bonuses!'

do you have Microsoft Works Spreadsheet? its basically a blank chart. if you have a Microsoft PC go to Start menu > All Programs > Microsoft Works > Microsoft Works Spreadsheet.

or write one up...seven squares across, however many chores you have down. then put the days of the week at the top over the box and the chores on the side outside the box. then put the kids name/amount of money/date it needs to be done by.

i hope that helped and didn't confuse you I do that sometimes lol! good luck!

Go to a teacher supply store with ready made blank charts. They're heavy cardboard and pre-printed...you just fill in the chores and days.....I like the idea of changing the routine and buy little stickers to fit in the spaces. It's a little reward before the money reward.

Sounds like your on the right track. Just make the chores appropriate for their age. I give my children a dollar amount equal to their age, i.e. 10yr old gets $10. Providing all the chores have been done. I take money away if they don't do all the chores provided.

There is a website that will help you do this, I think it is chorecharts.com or something like that. It has characters that kids like that you can choose from to decorate the charts with too! You may have to google "kids chore charts" since I can't remember the exact name of the site.

I did ours in Excel, but there are a number of websites that have chore charts already done that you can print off and use for free.

Try using PayJr (www.payjr.com), which is an online allowance and chore system that lets you print a chore chart if you like or manage them online.
