I have a maltese and her back legs sometimes twitch or walks on 3 legs. Sometimes she just goes and lays on her back so she doesnt need to stand on on her leg. What can be wrong with her? Could it be she is sick or has arthrites?

Also, she is just 6 years old.

Maltese are one of the smaller dogs with longer backs that can easily suffer disc injuries from jumping, running, just about anything. She could have a pinched nerve in her back similar to people with sciatica. Other than this suggestion, Wolfblayde covered some really great points and offered good advice; take her to the vet to find out for sure. Good luck!

Probably nothing is wrong at all. My dog has been shaking since the day he was born, and the vet said nobody knows why and there is nothing they can do about it. Dogs can't get parkinsons disease which is what I first thought it must be... The Vet told me it could be something to do with electrolytes but not to worry about it. He is 10 years old now so it obviously isn't anything too serious.

There are a lot of possibilities: nerve damage; mild hip dysplasia; sprain; toenails too long and causing her to walk oddly so as to put strain on her back and legs; interdigital cysts; fungal infection between the toes; etc.

This one just can't be diagnosed over the Internet. Let the vet take a look at her, and if needs be, have him X-ray her hips. Good luck, and I hope your fur baby feels better soon.

It sounds like there might possibly be neurological problems. Seriously though, don't try and diagnose her and take her to a vet. They have a much better idea of what possibly could be wrong, and it doesn't sound like something that you'll be able to solve on your own without a vet's help.
