I'm 29 and very interested in becomeing a car salesman. I've always been very good at sales. I curently work for a mortgage firm and am one of their top telemarketing reps. I've always had the gift for gab and a great BSer. Only ony problem I do have a felony that I got when I was 18. Will this keep me from getting a job ? Or do most car lots hire people w/ felonys. For the record its a felony theft. I got into a fight at a party and took the money that was in the guys pocket. I was young and dumb and am not the same person that made that mistake when I was young. I live in Columbus Ohio. thanx to all who send a helpful reply

There are some jobs that you cannot hold if you are a convicted felon but I do not think car sales is one. I would think that first of all you should have a valid drivers license, a couple of suits, some shoes that require shining on a regular basis, good hygyne, all of your teeth, and a personality profile that exhibits high dominance and influence traits. Good luck!

I'm really answering to correct John H. The car business does not suck right now, unless you work at a domestic lot. Honda, Nissan, Mazda, and Toyota lots are jumping with customers.

But really, you sound more than qualified. I'm guessing that your mortgage business has slowed down a bit (like everyone elses') and that's why you're considering jumping industries. I'd advise staying in that field, unless your felony prevents you from moving further in your career. Lot's up potential in the mortgage business.....lots.

depends on the state. i am in Pennsylvania, and the answer is NO. most states are like that.If you want to know for sure ask the state agency that handles licensing in your area. besides the car business sucks right now. If you already are doing well in the mortgage business stay there.

watch the news, when was the last time you saw a manufacturer announce a mass hiring instead of layoff, or that somebody was building new plants instead of closing them.

A little larceny goes a long way in selling cars.
A few make it. Many starve.
