Is it worth getting? I have windows xp home edition 2002. I hadn't installed any updates from Windows Update for about 2 years now. I have just installed Windows Service Pack 1 and all the security updates. Now my computer tells me Windows Service pack 1 will expire on October 10, 2006 and says I should upgrade to Service pack 2. I heard there are firewalls and things to help. I don't want it to affect my mozilla firefox and the way I have it set. Is it really hard to work with? I want to know from someone who has or has had it and is it good?

It won't cause any probelms with Firefox. I haven't noticed any real "gains" from SP2, but at least you'll know that you're up to date with updates and such.

WindowsXP Service Pack 2 includes a firewall, automatic updates and some other security features. Microsoft has said the following:

Note: After October 10, 2006, Windows XP Service Pack 1 will transition to a non-supported status. Upgrade to Windows XP SP2 now for continued security updates and incident support.

Yes I recommend you upgrade, there are many added features including faster updates and a firewall (although its crap). Heres a download link for WindowsXP Service Pack 2 update if you are interested (250mbish):

You're crazy not to keep your computer updated. The whole purpose of the updates is to protect your computer and to fix bugs. What possible chain of thought could make someone not keep their computer updated?

SP2 is not something you work with. It's just a complete collection of all the updates to Windows XP. For instance, if you have to reinstall Windows then you don't bother with SP1 you just use SP2. SP2 includes SP1 plus all the updates since then. Of course SP2 has been out for awhile so there have been plenty of updates since then. Maybe we'll see an SP3 one day.

You need to either set your computer to automatically download updates or else check it yourself at WIndows Update at least once a month.

SP2 is available on a free disk from Microsoft if you are on dialup and don't want to wait for the download.

You can install service pack 2. It shouldn`t mess up your settings and if it does you should be able to fix it after.
