That's because the translation is crap. Take a look at Jewish and mystical interpretations of these two books. Take a look at this site and book too if you really wanna understand how those ancient Jewsish stories were meant to be read. www.Kabbalah.org and the book Kabbalistic Healing. Understand that book and you will begin to really understand yours to a shocking degree. If your not into that then check out more recent translations by people with masters degrees in Hebrew. You will see these books in a different light. The whole Old Testament will seem like a different book, like a living book almost, haha. For instance there are actually ten different names of God alone in the first chapter of Genesis, and each represents God's action or quality produced. Eve was also created out of Adam's side, not his rib. The first line in the book alone has been totally misrepresented by Christian texts. Check it out!!! In the end, the main point to the stories overall, are that God is One, God is Infinite and that consciousness is the nature of reality!

The story of Eden is symbolic. Male and female being two
aspects of the Lifeforce, that comes together at many levels
in order to create life.
The tree symbolizes these levels as they go from where we
are up to where the Source of Life is.
It symbolizes the fact we have free will. The right to make or own choice to do good or evil.
Eve being made from Adams rib, the middle of mans body.
Shows that woman is equal to a man in the eyes of God.
The serpent shows that there are influences outside of
humanity that do not wish us the best.

There were two different tribes or groups that merged. Each had their own creation story. They were similar but with key differences about the order (water first or land, human first or animal, 2 humans at once or man 1st, etc...) So they joined the 2 stories together to create harmony.

They are two different stories, about two different times. God created man in the first one, then later God created man in his own image---nowhere does it say that Adam and Eve were the first people; they were the first according to the bible to be in God's image or under his protection. Otherwise, how could Cain have gone into other lands and taken a wife there? It is funny how people read the bible but don't really read it fully-especially a lot of ministers.

It is pretty much the same as creation stories in other cultures, isn't it? Why are they not believed, but this one is?

The main point is that SIN will kill you every time no exception!
Sin is breaking those Old Law written in the Torah, the first five books of every Bible.

The main point that the writer of Genesis was trying to make was that God created all that is.

Before the debate begins, if you want to take it literally feel free to do so. If you want to take it figuratively, feel free to do so. It doesn't matter.

We're here, now. Peace...

Its to answer the question of existence. Its to get one to understand the omnipotency of God and His infinite wisdom.. through His creation. Its to make us grateful of our lives, and for us to be more appreciative of our surroundings..
