If you cannot have complete and total trust in your mate then it is a false relationship. Communicate with your mate what you are feeling and hopefully he will be honest with you, even if he is an illegal immigrant. Half answers are a great way to hedge around the issues and if you don't persue the issue then you'll never find out the truth. And yes sometimes the truth will hurt but like so many people before you you'll learn to live with it and it will get better.

You can't. I would leave him if he can't be straight with you. As much of a feeling of love you for him, you are setting yourself up for the biggest fall and pain of your entire life. It's up to whether he can be honest or not.
