Stop any food she is eating that has corn in it. Corn is used to fatten slaughter animals who have at most a two-year life span. Commercial cat food companies use it as filler because it is cheap. Did you know that the $4 box of corn flakes you buy has 14 cents worth of corn in it? That means no more grocery store food, Science Diet too.
The more expensive and better quality foods have more meat protein (the natural cat food) and they use rice or pea or oats as their "fillers". CA Natural is chicken and rice, Natural Balance has a venison and pea, Prairie has chicken and brown rice. Read the labels on the bags (no form of corn listed as one of the first three ingredients).
To make a switch to a new food and stop your cat from gaining any more weight and start her on a healthier diet click on my name in the icon. I have written out how it needs to be done.
You indicate that your cat needs to lose a lot of weight so you must be prepared that, like with people, the dietary change will not take off weight in a month. Check her after six months and then at a year of the new diet.

Try her on a weight management food, dry only, and only give her a specific amount a day (don't fill her dish as soon as it runs out).
Also, try playing with her - buy a laser pointer from the dollar store, and have her chase the little light (just watch you don't point it in her eyes).
Or try enticing her to play with other toys - a shoelace with a feather on the end, or jingle balls, or something simple like an empty box or plain brown bag.
Best of luck!

Try some new car food. And cut it down. But not to fast only a little bit at a time or she will get sick. My cat was fat, that is what I did and now she is PERFECT! Shining coat too!

A vet can prescribe a prescription diet food to help. My cat used to eat Science Diet w/d, prescription food and he lost 8 pounds.

What do you expect with a role model like Garfield...try a low calore cat food, which she will turn her nose up at until she gets hungry enough to eat it, which she will.

Fill her food bowl only a third of the way up. Refresh the bowl 3 times a day if she empties it.

Try a special diet for her. Most pet stores carry specialty foods. Try Science Diet.

Feed her less, put her on a diet, & buy a cat leash so you can talk her for walks. Walking is good exercise.
