my computer is new, i just used all new parts to assemble a new PC and i only have my old original OS to fall back on and my 13 gig hard drive, cd rom and burner. so most everything is new enough for windows XP to not have a problem with the older parts.

Don't buy it!

If your computer came with Windows 98 then it is far too out of date to run Windows XP.

Your best bet is to buy an eMachines computer for $400 and it will already have Windows XP installed.

Or just wait a few months since Microsoft will release the upgrade for Windows XP this year. It's called Windows Vista.

I found windows xp, at staples, for $89.99. I would advise you not to upgrade your computer, running windows 98se, to windows xp. You will need to upgrade almost everything else, and it isn't worth it. I also have windows 98, and you cannot get any more critical updates from microsoft, as you said, they don't support 98se, anymore. I don't think there is anyplace else where you can get them. If you could wait until you could buy another computer, you will be way ahead of the game. To much can go wrong, when you update from 98se to xp. I was looking at a few new computers today, and HP has one for $249.99, which isn't bad, unless you need a better one. click here for staples>>

click here, to see the computer, for $249.99 good luck..

When you get your windows xp, onto your computer, click on start, then click windows updates..

You'd be better off with XP Professional and the easiest way to get legal copies is to bid for one on eBay - - - BUYER BEWARE, there's a lot of illegal stuff out there, the legit ones usually show a scan of the certificate of Authenticity.

Find a college student to buy one from their bookstore. My friend got XP Pro from her college for $20.
