I just started one in NJ. All I had to do was open a non-profit account for the fund. You will receive and e.i.n. # from the government that you can use for donations, fundraisers etc. Make sure you keep good records of how the money from the account is spent and you will be fine. Ideas for fundraisers - get sponsors for a run ( any type - bicycle, motorcycle, 5k) people register for a fee at the finish line you raffle off donations from your sponsors. You get sponsors from your local businesses. If you do a web search on charity runs you will see what other people have done. Good Luck

Work through a local church and utilize the media. See if a not for profit group will sponser a web page for you. Once you have some kind of sponser things will go much easier.

Go to the lukemia society's website, or type in your search engine "Light the Night." Kinda like a walk-a-thon, you get sponsors.

I raised funds for a service dog for my autistic grandson by writing a letter about the need & asking for a donation. Sent it to everyone who cared about me & my family. Raised exactly the amount needed!!!
