Because it upsets their traditional applecart?

They are being played, as unwitting dupes, by their religious puppet masters. Their minds are being turned to mush by professional liars who are trying to protect their business interests. They don't want them to KNOW anything... they don't want them to THINK... or even know HOW to think. This was well understood by important figures in religious history. This is why the early church destroyed all the 'tainted' (non-canonical) writings, which were in conflict with dogma... Greek philosophy, medicine, mathematics, astronomy, engineering... all the good stuff. By this means, Christianity dragged humanity directly into the Dark Ages.

Just to illustrate the point, let's see what Martin Luther, the 'father' of protestantism, had to say about 'reason' and secular knowledge:

"Reason must be deluded, blinded, and destroyed. Faith must trample underfoot all reason, sense, and understanding, and whatever it sees must be put out of sight and ... know nothing but the word of God." ~ Martin Luther

"Reason is the greatest enemy that faith has; it never comes to the aid of spiritual things, but -- more frequently than not -- struggles against the divine Word, treating with contempt all that emanates from God." ~ Martin Luther

"There is on earth among all dangers no more dangerous thing than a richly endowed and adroit reason... Reason must be deluded, blinded, and destroyed." ~ Martin Luther

"Reason should be destroyed in all Christians." ~ Martin Luther

Christianity is essentially a criminal business enterprise... in fact, it is the world's longest running and most successful Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) scam. The product they are selling is 'salvation'... and the 'pay plan' doesn't kick in until after you're dead. What a racket! FORTUNATELY, it only works on those who are gullible enough, and sufficiently lacking in critical thinking skills, to fall for it. UNfortunately, THAT accounts for about 62% of the population of the USA. (There are a lot more people who DON'T know how to think properly than there are people who DO know how to think properly.) That is why there are a lot more religious people in the USA than there are 'Free-thinkers'... including Atheists. Also, Christians are generally too dense to realize that proselytizing (spreading the 'good news') is a key element of the Christian MLM MARKETING PLAN, which was instituted after Christianity lost the political power that had previously allowed them to simply torture and kill anybody who did not comply. Now, they attempt to just pester people to death, through persistent obliviousness and obnoxiousness. If you stop to think about it, you will realize that Christians are very much like the Borg, on Star Trek Next Generation: "You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile." I would not be surprised to learn the thoughts of Christianity provided the 'creative spark' for the Borg concept.

Christians are being lied to, misled, and manipulated by the very people with whom they have bestowed their trust. They are being PLAYED, to further the political power and contribute to the monetary gain of unconscionable vermin... and as such, they are are being used to help undermine their own country.

Exactly because it upsets their traditional applecart. It is at variance with the biblical account. This bothers them; it does not bother me because that is a small subset of the hundreds of errors of fact in the bible. I used to think that evolution could not be proven to be a fact, but a conversation in this forum suggested a means of proving it, and I have now done so. Anyone interested in details may contact me via my avatar.

If a FACT bit you on the okole, you wouldn't know it! You probably couldn't find your okole with both hands, an 8 hour block of instruction & a 3 man detail! As a zealot against stoopidity, a zealot that detests apples & idiotic evolution THEORIES, lemme splain dat we iz upset wid lame claims of FACT which are full fiction, perpetuated by 'intellectual idiots' refusing to accept Christ! That's the FACT, Jack! & I've got yer 'tradition' down here!

I would agree with most everyone else. Your question is a little rediculous. A little rediculous...okay really rediculous. I think most people don't even get upset about. That is a huge generalization. When you start generalizing like that you have to be careful and you weren't very careful. I think some of your "religious zealots" beleive in evolution because God created it that way. God created things to evolve. But you are probably one of those "atheist zealots" who can't see anything else but their own pride. You should try having an open mind sometime.

Because they aren't willing to look open-mindedly at the whole picture aside from what's in the Bible. It's not the word of God, and furthermore most of the creation stories were borrowed from neighboring cultures. Not to mention they don't take into consideration the history behind the creation of the church, the Bible they claim to read everyday was compiled at the earliest in 325ce (COMMON Era), nearly three hundred years AFTER the resurrection! I am a Christian, but I can easily accept evolution without questioning my faith.

Less like an applecart, more like a house of cards. Genesis is one of the bottom cards. This crap forms the basis of their pathetic beliefs.

if god created the world in 6 days ('cause on the 7th day he rested) where do the dinosaurs fit in? reptiles were the dominant species on the planet for millions of years. or are all the bones they've dug up over the years a farce?

For Christians who are Biblical literalists, the Creation story in Genesis is but the first of an unending instances where the Bible is either scientifically proven wrong or contradicts itself directly. They don't like to be confused with facts, and they are experts at denial.

I'm not sure because evolution would have never been possible if God hadn't created everything to begin with. I've always felt that believing this is all the result of a huge explosion, is about as sensible as believing the dictionary is the result of a bomb going off in a book store.

It's not upsetting.... in fact the Fact of micro evolution is ultimately a center piece of God's plan.

To call macro evolution a fact is purely comical and makes your question absurd.

Do you know the difference between micro and macro evolution.... do you even understand that evolution on a macro scale is still considered theory??? Why do you assume that it is fact.... because it is traditionally easier for you and believing otherwise would upset your applecart....

Please.... get a life.
