Being nervous and feeling a little intimidated is very normal for most teens in this situation.
If you try too hard at first, you'll look like a jerk which I am sure you are not so be yourself. Pace yourself in trying to make friends, take a deep breath and before you know it, you will adjust and then you'll look back on the whole situation and won't even remember why you were so anxious.
You will later learn that the older kids were once the new kid on the block too and most likely felt the same way you do then.
High School is the time you look forward to college and become a young adult, so try to make the most of it and good luck.

The whole high school *thing* just sucks. High school sucks. Period. You are going to get looked down upon, made fun of, talked about, dumped, everything. But you're also going to learn a lot and make a lot of really close friends. STICK close to your friends - they become SO much more important as you get older and start growing into personalties and your friends - I mean think about it - friends are just plain awesome. So in that way, high school is nice. Ok, let me rephrase that, high school is good. High school is not *nice.* Your teachers are going to unsympathetically pile you with homework the week before Christmas, you won't get credit for handing in a late paper, they *will* give you a test that's too hard and you *will* get a bad grade on it. But you have to accept that you're learning and that's ok. Work hard on schoolwork - take classes you like and at a capable level. and REMEMBER: Don't get caught in a BUBBLE. You need to have activities outside of high school. Even look into studying abroad. Broaden your horizons instead of obsessing about this single little community. It's like an ant farm.
So - have fun, meet new people, but keep old friends because they're always there for you, and branch out. You're going to do great, and then you're going to get into an awesome college and get the job of your dreams. But only if you work and stay true to yourself. You can do it!

We all are afraid of what's new and uncertain, especially within a setting where you're considered the bottom of the food chain (like being a Freshman in your case).
The best advice I can give you (not only for this, but when you become a Freshman in college, or decide to join the military and go through Basic Training), is that say to yourself "This is a game, and it is nothing personal". Everytime you hear harassing and hurtful words, say to yourself in your mind at the same time "This is a game, and this is not about me". If you say it enough and enough, then you'll be able to feel the abusive words a lot less. It really worked for me.

The best advice I can give you is to relax. You're being totally normal and it will get easier!
Focus on your studies and on a few close friends. Then you won't get overwhelmed by everything else going on around you. Try to find at least one teacher you feel you can connect with. Try to get involved in at least one activity outside of classes at all times - sports, clubs, etc.
Upperclassmen often try to scare freshmen - it's been a rite of passage for as long as I can remember (and that's a LONG time). Don't fall for their tricks. Just rely on your friends, trusted upperclassmen, and your teachers.
Best wishes!

Try to concentrate on yourself and not others. Take deep breaths and relax. It will be ok. Everyone else is there for the same reasons you are and they're probably thinking the same thing at some point. It will be fine.

hey ,don't think like that - u should not hate anything or anyplace just coz u r not able to adjust there. it's normal with any one to feel uneasy in a new & crowded place. But don't get horrified with any thing.try to remain calm & enjoy with ur friends and if possible try to attract ur seniors with ur talent & friendly nature. Then see how it works like magic soone ur seniors will also be ur friends & then going to high school will be enjoyable , lovable & exciting for u..........ok all the best ---- TRY THIS FUNDA ..............

well, that would be normal for someone who's just starting highschool but once you get the hang of things, you'd be wishing that it would never end. high school is the most exciting part of school and there would surely be a lot of memories worth remembering.

something like that kind of happend to me.
i got my houses switched and i didnt know anyone or the hall ways. after a week, i got used to it and made some new friends.
in highschool, you can always make older friends, so just make friends with some older kids and ask them to show you around.

That happens to everybody...Don't you have classes like Spanish or Art where there are mixed grades? Maybe someone will take pity on you...A month from now you won't feel so bad.
