In America, over 40 million people play pool every year, nearly twice that of golf. Pool is a real "sport of the people". Is this the case with snooker in the UK? Being the #1 televised sport in your country, is it played by a large number of the common people? Are there pub snooker leagues, open tournaments, etc?

It's played by s*** loads of people around the country.
I'm not that great my self my highest break is 54 but i play for a few hours twice a week.
There are loads of leagues around England just go to your local snooker club and it's more than likely they will have some sort of league maybe local or against other towns and they will deffenetly have in house tournements going on.
If you want to play for a team but are still a learning the game you should join your closest con club or British leigon they usally have 2 or 3 teams .
