Sure. There are plenty of things you can do with a two year old. The trick is to the make the activity to fit his attention span. Also, make it an "open end" activity. Meaning, there is no right or wrong way, you just do the activity anyway you choose.
One of the best things a child that age usually likes is a simple box. Make sure any staples are out, some boxes might have them. If you want, you can give him a crayon to decorate the box, but supervise this closely. A blanket over the top, depending on how big the box is, and it's a quick hiding place, or a nice peekaboo box. He could set in the box or have a very soft ball (like a nerf foam ball) and play a game of toss. They discover cause and effect during play. If you want, you can cut out a door in the bottom of the box big enough for him to crawl out of. You can also take several boxes, cut crawling holes, and duct tape them together. Make a small obsticle course to crawl through.
Finger paint. There are plenty of homemade, safe, recipes online. Just do a search on google.com When all else fails, put an old shirt on him and let him finger paint on paper with chocolate pudding. If he eats it, no big deal, and it's easy to wash off.
All those things we all take for granted, like plastic cups, metal pots and pans, plastic cooking spoons, a child thinks is a great musical band. Your studing sound there.
At that age another favorite game is to have a small bowl, or plastic container like a baby wipe box, and put in items like blocks, or other baby safe items. He can enough putting things in the box and dumping them back out.
