Would a Catholic priest be my spiritual director/advisor if I ask him?

I can answer that since I am one, spiritual director that is.

What I do for people is first listen to where they are at spiritually. I might ask a few questions to get some details about their practices. I then start making suggestions for other things they might want to try to improve their connectedness with the divine. But I never say one should do x, y, or z. Usually, I’ll say something like, “Have you thought about doing X?”, “Do you think that would work for you?”

I do not make value judgments on the person’s choices or religion. I am a sounding board to help them decide how they can better connect with the divine. Currently I’m working with two Christians, a Buddhist, several Neo-Pagans, and a self proclaimed mystical agnostic.

How do you find one?

If you do go to church, start by asking around there. If that does not’t work try contacting Episcopal or Catholic churches in your area. They are pretty strong in using spiritual directors.

That’s a start.

Bright Blessings,

Pabs

Added after your edit: Most directors have had training. But yes many priests and lay people in the Catholic church are excellent directors.

Extra Edit: Some people are concerned that I'm a Witch. If that matters to you it is fine by me. So now you know. ;-)

You Added, "Would a Catholic priest be my spiritual director/advisor if I ask him?" You have to ask and find out. Some are trained specifically to be a spiritual director. But if you start, God will provide.

I have never heard the term "spiritual director". But why would you need or want anyone but the Holy Spirit to direct you? The post by Pablito worries me. He seems to feel that it is unimportant what direction you go or who you are following. What kind of direction is that? If you are a spiritual person, then you know they are real. You also know that not all of them are good. Some are evil. To open yourself up and become vulnerable based on the words of anyone who says it doesn't matter would be a bad idea. Very bad. You would not trust your credit card or any other material thing to a stranger, so why would you trust your soul to them. I would suggest that you find a church and study with them. Here is a link that will be helpful.

There are many fraud out there and you need to be extremely carefull. Everyone for money becomes Spiritual director!..!!

Regardless of your faith/Religion, the best Spiritual Director is "yourself". You need to start communicating with your creator, rather than listening to others to give you directions based on their own interpretations, which in most cases looses the actual meaning of any messages.

Believe it or not, if you keep communication with your God sincerely, you will get the answer and directions.

God Bless you...

Yes, I am certain a Catholic priest would be willing to be a Spiritual Director for you, if you ask him to be.

Best of luck.:-)

Really, the Bible will be the best spiritual director. You don't want any human to direct you. What if they are wrong? You don't want to follow their path, and God says we are all sinners, even Priests.

PS: Watch out for Pablito...in his info...he says he's a witch...you DO NOT want a spiritual director who is a witch!!

Gary
please be very careful about who you take counsel from.....some on here are not what they seem to be..and many out in the real world arent either......if I were you I would read the Bible and listen to the wording and see what god is saying in the Word to you......go ask a Pastor .. it is easy to be led in the wrong direction and satan sends all kinds into our path that may seem right but in actuality they are sent to bring you harm.....and to lead you away from the true God...so please be careful who you except counsel from...the only spiritual counselor you need is from God and a pastor of your own church.....that is the safe way until you grow and learn more of the Bible to be able to discern between that which is good and evil....stay close to God Gary and be very leary of all that want to help so easily...sorry to say that but from experience it usually turns out to be bad.....Jesus will help you find the right way......

Probably depends on the priest, and what exactly you mean by Spiritual Director.

Ask your neighborhood priest.

If you don't know one, look here: http://www.churches-in.com

I do not recommend using Yahoo! Answers to find spiritual answers.

Pablito, a self proclaimed witch, is giving spiritual direction. God will have a special place in hell for deceivers like him.

Could someone please warn the poster of this question about him?

In Christ,
Bob

The only qualified spiritual director would be Jesus.
