My driveway is .4 of a mile off the road and you cannot see the mian road. The sheriff car was behind the house as I was driving in halfway in they heard me coming. During the arrest I stated to leave the vehicle here. They towed it into the impound and charged me $120.00 for 4 miles and $15.00/day and is still going since June 22, 2006. I was not seen on the highway or followed into the driveway.

Get a good lawyer and hope you have a lenient judge...The tow place will only reimburse you if you have another lawsuit in civil court because they are only doing what the police ordered them to do and the police wont pay the charges because they are not the tow company charging you! Its a mess and good luck getting your money back!

Yes. They do it as a precaution. If someone knew that the driver wasn't around (arrested), then someone could more easily steal the car. That could come back on the police for not keeping it "safe." Of course, they also get the impound fee.

Towing is contestable if not proper. File a complaint in the proper forum.
