This is assuming that it is your friend or someone you care for who has a parent afflicted with cancer. Caring for a cancer patient is a round-the-clock duty as every need of the patient must be attended to. From time to time, you can relieve your friend in attending to the patient so that he/she can get some rest, particularly sleep. Just being around to talk to the patient while the other rests is already a big support.

Just be there for them-- spend as much time with your friend as you can, & relieve them of care-taking duties when you can-- send them out to a movie, while you stay with the sick parent-- or just allow them an afternoon to themselves!! Things like this will help them to open up & talk to you about their feelings! Cancer affects everyone in a family, & lots of times, all will have different feelings & emotions to deal with!! Good luck, & God Bless your friend and their family!

Get them a massage. They are stressed out for sure. Offer to sit with the patient, if they are caring for them personally..... Offer to come by and clean the house for them, a lot of times that stuff gets pushed aside. Don't patronize them, just be a constant, steady friend, which it sounds like you are already being. How great that you are asking this question. God Bless.

Let them talk when they need to, cry when they need to, laugh when they need to. Just be yourself and be a friend. It'll mean SO much.

The single best thing that you can do is act just like you did before. Your friend has a life in turmoil and the single greatest thing you can do is give them a place to be where nothing has changed.

Just let them know you will be there for them if they ever need to talk or need a shoulder to cry on. Help them by just being a good friend. They will know you are there and they will appreciate it. From experience, I know.
