if a girl takes a guy's muscle shirt to sleep in, what does it mean? i have heard of this before but i was curious to see what a lady would say about it!

Means she wants to get really close to you and be next to you always... Its like having a piece of you..

It means that she forgot her own pj's and that his muscle shirt (or any type of guy's shirt) would be warm and roomy enough for her to be comfy in. Plus, if he wears cologne, then she can smell of it, which makes her happy.
But usually, it's because she didn't prepare for an overnight stay, and sleeping in street clothes or nude may not be as comfortable as a nice, warm, roomy, softly scented shirt of her current beau.

Well, your first problem is that you have a "muscle shirt". Who does that? First work on your wardroab, then try for the chicks.

If I did that, it would be because I wouldnt' want to forget you. I mean every guy has there own smell, scent, ya know. There cologne, and everything. Keeps you close. also, could be that she likes your clothes i dont know, it all depends really.

It means that she wants to feel close to him. I take my fiance's t-shirts with me on overnight business trips as a way to not be so homesick.
