Good question but slightly out of context. This passage means that you should not create disturbances (i.e. back biting, false witnessing, gossiping, etc.) within your family or other families. It means to focus/study the calling you have, pursue it and work hard at it.
If we Christians understand this passage and understand that we all have a calling to seek God's truth; we must provide leadership in each of our communities. God's truth is our business.

Interesting...
Living a quiet life is getting along with others and being a responsible citizen. Now, there are numerous other verses that instruct the faithful to be bold in sharing the good news AKA Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Thanks for your question!

I've never read that verse before. It is interesting though. I would like to live a quiet life, however small that possibility is. I so mind my own business, but I don't usually work with my hands.

You must remember that when it says work with your hands...
In Greek culture people who did manual labor were looked down upon for that specific line of work. Due to that fact it is emphasizing the idea that you should live a modest life, and not need to be in the light (of course not meaning spiritual light.. its always good to be in that) ... not that we are specifically suppose to work in manual labor.
Each verse is part of a chapter, each chapter is part of a book each book is part of a whole Bible. Keep that in mind...
Just for those that interpreted it incorrectly.

Yes..but I don't obey it because Paul said it. I follow Jesus , and Jesus explains it better than Paul. Love God with all of your heart and might and soul and mind.... and love your neighbor as you want to be loved. Sometimes, by the way.. that requires a little bit of loudness and sometimes some quiet. Jesus said to tell and so as we go about the earth.. we have to learn to discern when to yell and when to whisper...but always with love.

I try to live this verse every day; along with Matthew 22:36-40.

That, my son, is a very profound verse and we should all profit by its example rather than railing against each other over the names and aspects of the Divine...but why was Paul using the royal "we"? Just a question of my own, please. Blessings.

yes, i have. one of the reasons why because everything that i do for christ isnt for everyone to know. because everybody wont understand it anyway. have you heard the saying, what seems right to people is wrong and what seems wrong is really right. thats why i do things for the lord because he is who i am working to please.
Proverbs 16:7 says when a man ways are pleasing to the lord, he makes even his enemies live at peace with him.

Yes. Let me clairfy.. I am sort of a loner. I have a social anxiety disorder so I don't get out to meet many people. It takes a LONG time to get to know people in my neighborhood..

Good one, I believe we should to a certain extent, but we are told to spread the gospel, so we have to do a little of both.
