You should take your dog to the vet asap.
I wouldn't take advice from people who tell you:
"and sees what the vet says"
Amber's dog just sneezes when it get's excited. It doesn't choke.
Call the vet today. It could be serious.

That's just the way my dog sneezes. If you're really worried about it then take your dog to the vet, but it's probably just a sneeze. If your dog is sneezing frequently, then you're dog probably has allergies and when they're sneezing and coughing at the same time, then the boogers from your dogs nose are just running down its throat which is making it cough.

If it's what I think it is, it's called a reverse sneeze and he'll be okay. I'd bring him to the vet and make sure though. Explain what it sounds like and sees what the vet says.
I have a dog that does the reverse sneeze when she gets excited and so does one of my friends.

Is it an intake of breath/snort that sounds like he's getting ready to spit out a loogie? That's "reverse sneezing" and all you need to do is get him to take a breath. Blow a sharp breath directly into his nostrils to get him to breath in. If it sounds like he hacking something up, you'll need to take him to the vet for observation. Blasto is a possibility, and the vet can treat him for that.

My dog does that a lot too. I forget what the vet called it. All I do to help her stop is massage her throat. Not sure it helps but it seems to go away faster.
