A little of both. He is basically saying catch and release is over!.......except that doesn't include El Salvador.

Deportations are up!

Except from another Homeland Security estimate if they were deporting even just those convicted of crime after serving their sentences the numbers would be many multiples higher.

The border is more secure!

However, border guards are arrested who shoot in the butt fleeing drug runners who refuse to stop and who the border guards think are armed.

Also, how much of that is due to the Minutemen and Sheriff A in Phoenix, for example?

They are trying to say the border is now secure, everything is perfect, now we'll just stay the course grant amnesty and family reunification rights and bring in a huge influx of cheap labor.

Pres. Bush is about to tour the border with Pence who has his own version of an amnesty/guest worker plan, and clearly wants to indicate that 'now the border is secure' it is time to move to other steps.

I don't think so.

The border is a sieve. Seal it and you stop illegal immigration, stop the drug flow, and stop the drug money going out. (all in large part) Win, win, and win. Put the National Guard in force immediatly. Then build the wall, add the hi tech, beef up the Border Patrol and the Coast Guard so the National Guard can be withdrawn.

As is little is being done and it is fluff. Illegals are easy enough to find by enforcing the laws on employers. Instead we aid and abet the illegals giving them drivers licenses and such.

We will have bombings and such here soon because we have allowed zealot terrorists to come in through various means. Only then will more people be willing to have their library records data mined. My hope is that every victim of any and all attacks is a left wing anti Bush wacko.

Political Misdirection. We Honestly Need to Remove ALL Pro Illegals from Office this coming election. Vote against ALL Pro Illegal candidates.

Sounds like they are trying, with some success. The more difficult question of what to do about ilegals that are already here was not addressed. It is my opinion that there should be a path to citizenship for such illegals, but that it should be more difficult and costly than for aliens who are here legally. Trying to find and deport all of them would be using a teaspoon to bail the ocean.

"With respect to Social Security, we have been working with the Social Security Administration to have them give us information with respect to people who are -- where there's such a number of mismatches that it certainly raises a reason to go take a harder look. I mean, there might be an explanation for it, but there's no question that the ability to get data to show significant numbers of mismatches between names and numbers is a good way to key in on those people where we ought to be taking some investigative steps."

I wanted to point out that one point of Chertoff's interest. Next will be the legal challenge to not use SS to find criminals just like you couldn't use them to find them for people who forgot about their money that the states held onto for them.

-any reference to the word 'comprehensive' I take with a POUND of salt

- it's a step in the right direction, but limited areas were addressed as falling in illegal entry, and no mention was made for any areas that increased, if any, either way as a result.

- I can't take his word for it. I will have to see independent verification of his words.

I'm sorry, I had to speed read. Something about catch and remove the Mexican illegals and no more catch and release. Some thing about more beds in detention centers. I am up and down and am trying to do 4 things at once. I read what I could. Thanks.

It sounds like they have done a good job of patting themselves on the back. I have become suspicious of anything concerning the illegals...time will tell.

Thanks again for the article...
