Peanuts, which are really not nuts, grow on vines underground. Peanuts are in the legume family. The mass production of them in the South came about because growing cotton for 100+ years had leached all of the minerals from the soil. George Washington Carver introduced the idea of crop rotation to farmers during the depression as a way to help the soil regain its vitality. There are approx. 15,000 peanut farms and, more than 50% of the peanuts in the USA come from south GA. and wind up as peanut butter

Goober peas are from GEORGIA and the surrounding southern states all the way to New Mexico.

They are grown in Queensland Australia, grown underground like a potatoe

I know my Home state (Alabama)grows alot of peanuts.I think mostly southern states here in the U.S. grow them.I'm not quite sure.I don't know about outside the U.S..
