Don't you hate it that when you're talking to your friends in spanish all the other people that DON'T KNOW SPANISH tell you to stop speaking it because we're in the U.S not Puerto Rico, Mexico, Spain, Colombia, etc...Everytime I talk to my friends in spanish everyone envy us AND they tell us to stop it because they don't understand us...Am I making sense?

I speak Spanish pretty well. Sometimes I like to listen to what Spanish people are saying, and they don't realize that I do understand what they are saying. I was at a bus stop today and there were 3 Hispanics next to me talking. I think if they realized that I understood them they would not have talked the way they were talking. Oiste? I am not one of those people who think that only English should be spoken. but it is a matter of courtesy when there is a group of people that secrets not be whispered in anybody's ear, nor do they start using another language or code, or what have you. Tuves? It is the same as when a group of people are like in the cafe at a table,, and you are there and somebody starts inviting some people to a party but not you. It is rude.
When you are in a group, you should include everyone in what is going on. If you have something that is private, wait til you are in private to share it. the same goes for Polish, chinese,, or sharing food. It is rude to cut somebody out when other people are in.

I understand why you get frustrated when someone says that to you. I am Cuban and they would say the same to me when I would speak my native tongue to other Spanish speaking friends. To this date, I will sometimes hear the same when I find myself speaking Spanish in front of non-Spanish speakers. However, now that I am older, I understand what they are trying to convey. I think it can be a bit rude when that is done since the other people do not understand what is being said. So what I do is that I try to explain to them that since Spanish is my native language that I enjoy using it with other Spanish speaking people and they understand that. However, if that bothers them to much, I might just excuse myself and go chat as loud as I want somewhere else. For the most part, they dont mind as they understand it is just part of our culture. Just remember, people are afraid of what they do not understand, so do not get defensive. Simply let them know that you do not mean to offend, but simply enjoy speaking in your native language.

It's not envious that your bad manners upset the English speaking population. No other country in the world caters to foreign cultures the way the US does to the Hispanic culture. Do you think if I called a major company such as a utility in a Spanish speaking country that I would have the option to select 1 for English? It's insane that we have to listen to that Spanish nonsense in America when placing a phone call.

Do you ever switch to Spanish so that you can talk about someone right in front of them? If yes, then the English speakers DO have something to worry about. If not, then they are just feeling left out.
A word of warning...so many people speak Spanish now that you cannot talk about someone in front of them in Spanish and expect them not to understand. This is the voice of experience here...

No. You make NO sense. You're in the United States of America, legally or otherwise. Speak English. Have some respect. And get that Mexican, Spanish, Colombian flag the HELL off your Hyundai. You're in the United States of America now. If you're so goddamn proud of your heritage, display it where you came from, not where I COME from. We don't envy your *** by any means. WE DO know that you're lucky to be here, sucking up our hard-earned tax dollars however. You don't even have the brains to capitalize "Spanish". Go home.

Tell them to take Spanish classes if they want to understand what you're saying! They can't expect everyone to just speak the same language as them just b/c they're too stupid to learn another language.

I am one of the people that envy you. Yo entiendo mucho, pero no hablo mucho en espanol. Mi esposo es Dominicano. Yo deseo hablar espanol en una conversacion con la familia. Someday!!! :) i say, speak it, speak Greek, portugese, Chinese....whatever. Be grateful your parents taught you both English and Spanish When you graduate high school you will have one up on a lot of other people your age.
Rock on hermanita!
