The most important thing to remember is to inhale first before you exhale. If you reverse this sequence you may get brain damage!

Inhale deeply through your nose and hold it for a second before exhaling through your mouth. The hairs in your nose filter the air before it enters your lungs to prevent dust and dirt from going into your body.

it should happen subconsiously....if its not working. try and hold your breath as long as you can.
