I think your disbelief is your mental comforter, so you don't have to think about the possibility of what happens in the afterlife if you're wrong.

You dont need a mental comforter to make you feel secure because you are in denial about the truth my friend. You do not want to come to the realization that there is a being that is more powerful than yourself. God is real and God does exist. I have felt the presence of God many times and that is my comfort and my faith.

How do you know you haven't been brainwashed or programmed by yourself to have comfort on don't believe anything at all? Or that the lack of faith of yours is in fact a faith that makes you walk everyday so secure on yourself :)

Study creation in detail. Then you will find it takes more faith to believe God does not exist than to believe that He does. My belief that God exists changes the way I live in every way, from lifestyle (since He's holy) to purpose, to ambition to hope for the future. It impacts my values, my delights, my entertainment, my passions. It profoundly impacts the way I raise my kids and my expectations for their behavior and future. There is nothing in my life that my faith in God does not impact. If I believed God didn't exist I'd curl into a ball and hope for oblivion

Well of course not- you have no beliefs.
And it is not a mental comforter- having faith.
Why is it so hard to understand, we believe that we were created by a higher power. One that loves us and one that we freely worship.

Usually people that dont believe God exist dont have any type of faith. And a lot of theese people also seem to have problems, and not just small problems, but they seem to have some serious problems. Weather it be phsycological, medical, physical, family problems. Alot of them have had so many problems that their almost afraid to believe theres someone, thereres a god that can help them get their life together.

I can understand how belief in God requires faith, but I don't see how the non-existence of God requires any faith whatsoever.

sounds like you are talkin more about religion but I know God is real in my life and I can rest in that. It seems funny how atheist can't rest with the "God isn't real" rant.
