Mythos is not logos.
That why. Seriously.

How can a family be so self-righteous and arrogant, to think that God favored them like that?
One major hipocrisy in Christianity is that "God was, is and always will be (the same." In order to have a just and faithful God, He must be one that you can count on and predict the actions of. God created Natural Law, which, we all know does not allow people to raise from the dead. Therefore, it never did. The reason people don't perform real public magic tricks anymore, is the same. Damn, I wish I had something to make the family dinner with; but I only have two pieces of bread and a fish. Where's Jesus when I need him? Did God change the rule book, and who did he alert when he did? Doesn't that mean He could do it again? Would we read about it on the news, or would Benny Hin deliver the news with the offering basket?
God obviously exists. You can't look around and deny it. The beautiful thing is that we were given the set of rules in our biology and consciences. And they never change.

God doesn't do parlor tricks in order to impress people...that is an awkward way of putting it, but that is the bottom line...i know in this culture, people expect whatever they want whenever they want it...the real world doesn't work like that...i've said it repeatedly and i'll keep saying it...God is not a cosmic ATM where you swipe the card of prayer and out pops your wish...God decides when it's time to die, and obviously decided it was time for that woman to die...now, my question is, how much of what you witnessed was faith, and how much was grief and denial, and simply not wanting to let go of someone the family loved dearly? God answers prayer, we've all been told that, but the part that people forget is that sometimes the answer is "i'm sorry, but no...", so...no, God is not in the business of"showing everyone around that Jesus is king"

Only GOD know's all of the End's and Out's of that.
There are Procedure's to Follow based on Experience, Wisdom, Knowledge so on, for a Positive Outcome.
Healing is Tricky.
Raising some-one from the Dead is even more so.
Just not an everday thing.
Gotta get a lot of Duck's in a Row.
Not much of an Explanation, but only GOD can tell you why Exactly.

If the woman had gotten up, she would not have been raised from the dead but returned to the dead. The only resurrections that Jesus has done or anyone else for that matter was to raise someone from death in this world to the world from which we came, the Land of the Living.
I'm sure the woman's relatives had enormous faith that it could be done, but their faith is based on an error in interpretation of certain parts of Scripture.

raising someone from the dead was considered a spiritual gift of "signs". Jesus used this gift to prove he was the one true son of God. We no longer have these gifts because we have the Bible which is the true living word of God. It also states in the Bible that these gifts were temporary and once ended would not return. I feel sorry for this families lost. God must have had a greater plan for her. I hope this helps, I just recently found God again.

Because it's Gods will that is done not ours. God knows things we don't. What if that lady would have been driving in a year, then, fell asleep at the wheel and careened into a school bus causing the bus to wreck, killing 62 kindergartners? Why would he bring her back if he knew that would happen. And, that even though it wouldn't be her fault, isn't her death better than the loss of 62 little children? Ask me...If I am to be driving and cause such an accident...take me now!! I bet if you would have asked that lady she would have answered the same thing.
Maybe that wasn't the reason why God didn't bring her back...but just remember...it's GODS will NOT ours that is done!!

Don't let lilybear get to you, Denise. It appears your story really touched her in a way for which she was unprepared.
You ask an excellent question. Jesus promised his disciples that they would work wonders. It says something about the faith of this family that they tried.
And having lost loved ones, I can sympathize.
It speaks well of your co-workers that they respected that faith. I wonder how many would have that much respect.
Peace

good question. i don't claim to speak for God but as a follower of Jesus, i hope to lead others to Him. i'm assuming, 1st of all, that as of the time time you see this answer, the elderly woman is still dead. next, you claim that only by raising this woman from the dead would Jesus show Himself to be King. in reality, that hasn't shown itself to always be the case. even when Jesus was said to have raised others from the dead, in the New Testament, including His own resurrection, not all unbelievers fell down and proclaimed Him Lord or King. it seems you believe that a) God's only response to great faith is to answer in the affirmative, and b) only by performing some great act or miracle would Jesus show Himself to be King. we don't know why He chose not to raise this particular woman from the dead. we do know if she repented from her sins, asked God to forgive her, and had made some effort to act on His behalf, even for the last few seconds of her life, she is now enjoying Jesus' company. i don't mean to sound simplistic or dismissive, but Jesus is, has been, and will always be King, even if God didn't raise the woman from the dead. Yes, her relatives loved her and prayed earnestly to God to bring her back, but His answer was no. we may not accept that and may even choose to reject Him, but still, God is sovereign and Jesus is King. you said you'd go home if that woman got up, but you didn't say if (assuming you're not a Christian) you'd believe in Jesus, or if you are, that this would strengthen your own faith. if this helps in some small way, please respond.

Because they were foolishly trying to do something only the apostles were supposed to do.
Over and over and over many "Christians" demonstrate their inability to read and discern Scripture. all the miracles that were reported in NT were a sign to the early church as well as the rest of humanity that there is only 1 God and he has revealed himself in Jesus. Speaking in tongues, healing blindmen, healing cripples, raising the dead were done in the 1st century.
Does God still do them from time to time? I have heard of it happening many times. But know this.....
We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. -Romans 8:28
To be sure god has raised the dead and in fact will raise ALL THE DEAD soon.

All of these are excellent answers, God's will is not always known to us, maybe her life had to end to spark some other significant event, maybe it was just her time, none of us really know, this all comes down to faith that the Lord will do what is right for us.
