Yes. It's completely safe. It will hydrate your dog without giving him too much water (in case you don't want him/her to drink too much or whatever). Vets recommend giving ice cubes if a dog has been throwing up. Even water can cause stomach irritation in that case, so it is suggested that you give him/her ice cubes which will help to slowly rehydrate him bit by bit. Otherwise, he might feel compelled to take big gulps of water, and that could cause more vomiting. Ice cubes can be "more fun" than plain water, too. So, really it's just like giving him water, so it's completely safe.

My dog has an obsession with water, She jumps in the tub when you take a bath, when you fill her water bowl she drinks a little and then splashes the rest all over her self. So To stop the behavior with the water dish we just started putting ice cubes in it for her. She would get the water she needed and thought it was a treat, I would rather have her addicted to ICE then WATER cause Water can make one HELL of a mess let me tell you!

Dogs can become bloated when given ice cubes. Better to go in sprinkler or wipe them down with wet towel!

Oh yeah!!! Saved me money. Dog treats can be very expensive!!! My ice is not cubed, it is more like orange slices when it comes out of the dispenser.

Ice is fine. It helps them to keep cool in the summer. You can also add ice to their water bowls.
For the one who said to freeze grapes and cherries and give to the dogs, NO!! Grapes are on the dangerous/poisonous food lists for dogs.
Check out this link.

Absolutely! I also like to freeze little pieces of kibble or doggie treats in one ice tray as well. It's a great treat for the summer and it'll keep them busy.

I have heard to give dogs chipped ice when they are unable to hold down liquids due to nausea, so yes it is o.k. but moderation is the best option. If yur pet is dehydrated and won't drink water ice chips are a good solution.
