In my house, I'm not even allowed to say fudge or something like that because my dad knows what I mean to say. I just scream.

Oh. You got me. Sometimes some ridiculous thing, but, the intent of the heart is still the same and that magnificent vocabulary shines fighting to get out. Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

Crivens!
My word!
Good gosh!
Cripes!
Honeslty, I do say those things as I am a self-conscious eccentric. I saw Crivens in a Viz comic strip and I immediately adopted it. I sometimes say 'Coo' which was in the Beezer a lot.

Oh, bother! By the way, I think yours is a virtuous question. Any gutter bum can swear. People who don't are a cut above.

My parents made me say "rats." Fudge, darn, shoot, and heck were too readily translated into "curse words" for them;-)

Isn't it funny how we're afraid to use certain adjectives, verbs, nouns.
If you listen closely you'll see that the same connotation is behind your words so what does it matter besides offending fools?

When my husband is trying to keep from swearing, he says "Cheese and Crackers" - "Jack Face" or "Monkey Balls" - it's actually kind of funny!
