Don't put too much on your plate all at once, starting too many tasks will only cause chaos and confusion which ends in frustration and incomplete duties. Try to keep things simple and organized. Read up on as much that there is to know and help you with coping with ADHD. There are some medications that are non narcotic such as stratera. Ask your Dr. whats right for you, sometimes trial and error is what it takes to find the best meds you can benefit from. Good luck to you.

Why would you want to? Do the meds not help? Is it a money issue? Not wanting to be 'chained' to meds'is understandable. IIn spite of what some posts on this question reccommend, it is NOT a mind over matter type thing, in fact that type of thinking goes hand in hand with the disorder itself.
Just because you have recently been diagnosed does not mean you suddenly "have" the disorder, it's just now you have a name for the thing. Do you beleive the diagnoses is on target? Youve been living with this before the naming of it.....was your life okay?
Best of luck..........G.

Read all that you can about nutrition... and you can do research on the web. You can find lots of info by just doing a search on "ADHD and diet". Also check out www.feingold.org. to find out about the Feingold Program that studies diets and additives and how they affect us. Sometimes symptoms can be alleviated just by taking one or two things out of your diet. Also there are lots of natural supplements that can help. Try to not have too many irons in the fire at one time. Overload can cause anyone to get stressed out. Also, I rely heavily on "lists"! I make out my "to do" list every night and go over it in the morning before I leave for work. I try to keep a small notebook with me, to jot down the things I have to remember, or things I have to do. It sure helps me, and I feel a sense of accomplishment when I can cross something off the list. Also, make a list of long term goals that you want to accomplish. Keep that list where you can always see it. That will help to keep you focused. You will be surprised at how much you get done when you can see it on paper where you can look at it everyday! Good luck!

My boss is ADHD. She tells me so, she has been diagnosed. I wish she would take medication, but she has hepatitis so she fears taking medication because of her liver. It's awful to work with her most times. She has other employees that feel the same way. If yours is severe, maybe try a low dose of medication. She does live with it. She is a very intelligent woman, but very scattered. Trouble concentrating with any type of interruptions. She, herself, would be better off to take medication and I understand why she doesn't. How does your close family members feel about you taking medication or co-workers. How about your concentration and not being easily distracted. This is your choice. Just a thought. Good luck!

most of the time mental inbalances are caused by some nutritional thing. i would find a homeopathic doctor and see what they say. most likely they can help you.
i am NOT a doctor, but i know something about the homeopathic remedies and such, and ADHD is on the list of curables by nutrition. you just need a homeopathic doctor to help you find out what you're missing.
good luck!
by the way, homeopathic doctors can be REALLY weird [i know, i'm not weird but i've encountered some weirdos] . but don't let one weirdo ruin the whole thing, keep looking. the homeopathic remedies are scoffed at by the traditional doctors, but it really is amazing. so, if you want to, give it a shot!

How have you been living with it up until now? A lot of people are getting diagnosed with all sorts of funky syndromes. Whatever. I probably have 58 of them, but whatever.
Don't let that be a crutch and, if I were you, I would just ignore the diagnosis unless you are MAJORLY impaired. But I doubt that.
Just live your life as normal.

Well... you learn from moving; tactile. Some auditorily and others visually. You can pay better attention when you're moving. Make sure you get plenty of excercise; join a team of some sort. And make sure you eat right. Certain teas and gin seng can help you focus better. good luck.
