I have been working on my Private Certificate for 6 months. I'm on my 3rd CFI and out about $6K. Is it worth the time, money and effort if you don't plan on making a carreer out of flying? Is there a secret to staying motivated?

1st CFI was a great pilot...he went on to the airlines. 2nd was an idiot...he buzzed a concert during my long cross country. 3rd is a new CFI.

I love flying...just bored with being a student.

Stick with it. Becoming a pilot, even just a private pilot, is a very, very big deal and will pay off in many different ways. It's not just about the flying (although thats amazing), its also about confidence, deep competence and about trust in yourself and in your own abilities. Becoming a good pilot will make you comfortable in this world in a way that very few activities can.

You just can't put a price on that, and its worth finding the right CFI and sticking with it until you feel like you're a real pilot. It might take years after your checkride, but its worth it. The flyings pretty damn fun too!!

Good luck!

It depends on a few things...1) why are you getting a Private Pilot license?, 2) How close are you to the checkride? If you are within 20 hrs. or so, I would continue to pursue the license. Otherwise, if you just want to fly yourself around, look into the Recreational license. But not getting the Private Pilot license may give you regrets in the future if you are so close. Don't let the instructor revolving door get you down. Its an accepted part of pilot training. Your new instructor will be fine.
