Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer or bowel cancer, includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. It is the third most common form of cancer and the second leading cause of death among cancers in the Western world. Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from adenomatous polyps in the colon. These mushroom-like growths are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. The majority of the time, the diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy. Therapy is usually through surgery, which in many cases is followed by chemotherapy.
Check with your doctor for more information on colon caner. He/She will be better prepared to answer your questions.

It does not have to be consistent blood in the stool- if a person is showing any signs of colon cancer, then they really need to get to a doctor fast. That person will need to have a Colonoscopy.
Blood in the stoll could be a part of something else- do you know for sure that it is cancer?
It may just be colon polyps, possibly an ulcer- something serious, but not cancer.
I wish you luck, and I hope this information helps.

Change in the consistency or amount of stools is another sign. Blood in the stool could also be a sign of ulcerative colitis, diverticulitis or hemorrhoids. You will need to go to the Dr for a rectal exam and blood work and they may want to do a colonoscopy to find out whats going on.

There are other conditions that cause blood in the stool. Please see a doctor and have a Fecal Occult Blood Test. That is the screen test for colon cancer. It could be something else, but you need to move fast and not wait.
Best wishes

I do not know where you are based Snoopy. Occasional blood in the stool can also be a symptom of diverticulosis. While it isn't life threatening it can be very painful and require surgery. Colorectal cancer on the other hand is as has been said very serious, requiring surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. Here are a couple of good links for you. www.webmd.com. www.cancer.ca.

Beware of these type of answers. Get to the dr. A colonoscopy can show cancerous polyps and if found to have cancer get a pet/ct scan. Dr do not stage this cancer properly! Over twenty fivepercent of the time patients are understaged!'
Get a second opinion!
