Your in a situation Im in. I had my Dell for 3 years now and its gettin time for an upgrade for something faster and up to date. As you can see there has been ALOT of changes since 03. Anyways the computers being sold right now with the Dual Core processors are very well. But if your somebody like me, who likes to have the newest and latest, and wants the new version of windows then Id wait. I mean you could very well buy a computer right now and it will be able to run Vista, but if you want the new Windows you'll have to go out and spend about 200 for the new software when it comes out. I dont kno about you but when I look at it that way Im not really sure if I wanna spend 200 for a CD you kno. You could wait till the 1st quarter of next year which really isnt that far off to buy a new computer and you'll have the newest version of windows on it. Hey think about this, if Dell still sells there lowest end model computer for like 300 when the Vista comes out and Vista is around 200, it'll be like gettin the computer for next to nothin. Im def gonna wait till I do anything, that and till I get money!

Oh yes, it is gonna cost you more for sure. The minimum RAM required for MS Vista is 512 MB though (ideally it should be 1 gig) compared to XP which is 256MB.

Vista would be a very heavy OS in terms of RAM and processor requirements but hopefully worth it.

Its not necessary that you wait for Vista, I suggest buy a decent configuration computer for about $500-700 and you can update later if you like.

Do not wait. Prices may be decreasing on current tech. With any new computer technology, hardware of software, give it a year before you get it, for the comany to work some of the worst kinks out. Vista will not come out with the new file system, WinFS (Windows Future Storage), so I plan to not just wait a year after Vista comes out to buy it, but wait a year until after WinFS comes out for Vista, before I am confident enough to buy it.
