I do not drink because of health issues. How do I deal with this socially? What can I ask for that is fancy and festive, but does not contain alcohol?

I get headaches and take medication, so I cannot drink. I never liked it anyway. People get uncomfortable sometimes, but I do not have anything against anyone else drinking. I even buy beer for my boyfriend because he likes it. I keep it in the frige for him. I buy it for other friends too. It is a hospitality thing. This is just for my body. I used to rarely drink it, but with the health stuff I stopped completly because it is not wise. I used to only drink when I desired it which was really rare only a few times a year and one drink. Now I just do not touch the stuff because of the headaches and medication. I fainted one time because of medication and I did not want to add alcohol to that. I am okay now, but do not want to start anything dangerous. It is fine with me if other people drink, but sometimes they just push. I just do not know if anyone will push me that night.

I don't drink either and have had the problem of people trying to pressure me into it.

Order a coke or a diet coke and have the bartender add a piece of lime and one of those little straws. Looks like a Cuba Libre.

Then there's always ginger ale with a piece of lemon. To make it pretty, add cranberry juice.

Good luck.

Almost any place that is serving champagne will have apple cider as a substitute. It is served in a champagne glass and even has the bubbles. Most places have non-alchohlic wine that looks just like the real thing. If you want to go more "foo-foo" try a virgin strawberry daqouri or virgin pina colada.
Also, club soda or tonic water with a squeeze of lime are common non alcoholic drinks.
Just remember the important thing is not what you are drinking,
but that you are enjoying yourself and supporting the happy couple! Good Luck!

Seriously, don't feel bad about not drinking.

If you want an excuse that doesn't drive into your personal reasons, say you're driving later. Everyone respects that.

Non-foo foo drinks. Hum. Personally, I love sherlie temples. They are foo foo though. Club soda and lime or tonic and lime are good bets.

Just thought of this, by little bro (who does drink either) always orders Arnie Palmers! It's have ice tea and half lemonade. So you can order something fancy! They are really good too and perfect for the summer!

There is nothing wrong w/attending a coctail party and having a soda or even a glass of juice. If your worried about the appearence thing then ask the bartender for maybe a cranberry & OJ (which mimicks many mixed drinks) or even a clear soda w/a cherry in it.

The practice consultation dinner is regularly after the marriage practice consultation. you will possibly circulate to the Church (if its at a church) and circulate interior the direction of the walking order and be certain have been the marriage occasion will stand and sit down and artwork out any kinks. Then the marriage occasion and doubtless close family members circulate to the dinner as a thank you from the bride and groom. You dress up in a Sundays suitable to a semi formal placed on, counting on the eating place and on what others will placed on.

Stay with the 'standard', Club soda & Lemon. Tastes great, and looks like a drink.... don't apologize - lots of people don't drink.
