Only when you are ready! And not a moment sooner. And of course you will never get over him, pets love us and make us smile in a way that no one else can. Give yourself some time if you need it. Only, and I stress this strongly, ONLY adopt when you are ready. It took me two years to adopt another dog after mine died.

Also, not to remind you of your recent loss, but you didn't mention what your kitty died of. If it was something that can possibly be passed on to the next cat from items in your home such as furniture, you may want to give it some time. I have seen this happen before, especially with upper respiratory infections and diseases that could have been prevented by immunizations. It's not that uncommon with certain diseases, and I almost didn't say anything, but I thought it was worth mentioning. If you think there is a chance, please talk to a vet before bringing a new kitty in the home. We adopted a cat that had an URI and we had to put her down because she was so sick and the infection was so advanced. We couldn't adopt another cat for 6 months. No cats in our house period. I just thought I would mention this, although I'm sure this doesn't apply to you.

I'm sorry for your loss, please take your time to work through this. There will always be a kitty looking for a loving home like yours!

Of course you are never going to stop missing your cat! Would you stop missing your baby if you had a child that died? You do need time to grieve, but when to get another best friend is something only you will be able to decide. Does seeing another cat send you running from the room in tears, or do you have an uncontrollable urge to pick it up and cuddle it? You will knoww when it is right. It won't be a replacement for the kitty you lost, but a new, loved and loving addition to your family.

I personally feel that getting a new cat needing a home is the greatest tribute you can make to the cat who died.

Why get a kitten? A young cat would be wonderful and more like the cat you had before. Many young, abandoned mother cats are in shelters needing homes. Everyone wants their kittens and just leaves the mom there waiting.

No new cat can ever replace your loved kitty. But careing for a new kitten will help fill a great hole left in you by his loss.

If you are ready to have a warm ball of fur fill that space, then do it. Only you can say if YOU are ready.

I would say that you should deffinetally get a new kitty to help you get over the other one but I dont know if I would suggest only a kitten I mean there are soooooooooo many other cats that are older and need homes! best of luck to you and your new kitty!

oh yes..if you get a new kitty it will help you through your pain of losing your other furbaby. Kitties sense those things. and just because you get a new kitty doesn't mean you forget your other kitty..actually just the opposite it means you so loved your kitty you can stand being without a kitty companion.

Good luck :)

yes my cat was 17 when he died and I still have dreams about him all of the time. I got a new kitten and as soon as he got home he was attached to me instantly. I was afraid that my old cat would come and haunt me or something or get mad that I got a new cat, and I thought it was so soon, but dont worry you need to fill that gap in your heart, but remember, your old cat will always have that special place in your heart. (I knoiw its cheesy but its true)

Trust me it is absolutely alright to love another cat..in fact, it's healthy. You'll know when you're done grieving over your kitty and when you're ready to move on...and I say, go for it!
