should protect your pc

otherwise may not last longer

which is better i'd go with norton

it is the most trusted antivirus and online security in the world and considered by many immortal leader of online protection world

not so far away in ranking is Mcafee a always up-to-date security software which provides protection to latest threats but not as affective to viruses and threats as norton

talking about whether it slows down pc

i'd say norton slows down pc big time Mcafee does too but not as much as norton and norton takes alot of diskspace too slowing pc even more

for ur pc i.e. with 55Mhz processor speed i'd recommend the Mcafee antivirus coz norton might slow down your pc even more then this.

They both stink. McAfee can't catch anything and sucks up system resources. Norton catches most viruses but is a huge drain on system resources and slows your entire machine down. Also they are the two most popular antivirus softwares on the market so hackers have designed viruses specifically to defeat them. If you really want to spend money on Antivirus software I recommend Trend-Micro PC-Cillin.

My best advice is to go to avast.com and download the Avast Antivirus. It's free and far more effective than McAfee. When you install the program tell it do run a boot scan when you start your computer. That way it will scan before Windows loads. Also go to lavasoft.com and download Ad-Aware SE Personal edition. Run that to clean the spyware out of your machine. Trust me, you've got alot of spyware.

I sell computers - both of those software programs will slow your computer down. Norton is notorious for causing all kinds of problems. If I were you, I'd download AVG (free) and if your part of 'roadrunner', you can download their suite for free. I wouldn't advise putting the firewall on because it'll be a pain but the other stuff works great.

Also PC-Cillin (used to be Innoculate) has gotton good reviews. Out of all of them, I really think Norton is the worst. I used Norton for 10 years and sent the last 3-computer license version back after it trashed 2 out of my 3 computers..... just my experience.

Usually, if someone is complaining of a slow computer, the first question I ask is if they have Norton.....and they almost always say yes.....food for thought.

Personally I like Norton. But that does not mean that it is better than McAffee, which is perfect for scanning e-mail and e-mail attachments for viruses. And, they both take about the same amount of time to preform the same task. It all depends on what you are looking for in the software.

Never used mcaffe and Norton tends to be slow and problematic. Having said that, either is better than no protection. I would reinstall the OS and then install the antivirus problem. You should notice an improvement in speed.

Mcafee is the best Norton slows down the computer like crazy it ueses so much memory your computer will be so slow I had and tried mcafee and yes there was a performance diffrence.Mcafee is good does not use so much memory and is easy to use.A good antivirus that uses the least memory I heard of is Nod32 which can be found here http://www.eset.com/index.php
