I'd be upset if my daughter couldn't come to me with a problem like that when she becomes a teenager. Your parents love you and will want to help! Your teenage years can be really rough there are so many pressures on 15 year olds - more so these days than when I was 15. Be proud of yourself that you have recognised that you are depressed. I'm sure your mum and dad would do anything to help you through this!! You need your family and friends on your side at the moment, I hope you feel ready to share this with them!

If you feel your parents can help you and will be supportive then you should tell them. However, if you feel that their actions may be the cause of your depression then you should be talking independently with your GP and perhaps someone able to offer an independent perspective, such as a Connexions adviser.

I empathise with your position.... I experience depression and didn't tell my parents for many years. They still find it difficult to comprehend and understand given that neither of them have experienced it. However, that's not to say that your parents would react similarly. You know them best and you get to make the decision, but do talk with your GP and see whether s/he wants to make a referral. Remember to ask your GP whether there is an obligation of their part to inform your parents. Don't assume confidentiality - ask.

Given your age, it's important to address the cause, as otherwise it could affect your performance in forthcoming exams, affecting the whole of your life.

I a mum of two, my kids are only 6 + 3 at the moment but I hate the thought of them going through something like that and not telling me.

I went through a bout of depression when I was 19/20 I told my mum and she was great.

You will probably be surprised how understanding your parents will be and how much better you will feel by telling them.

Hi as a mother I could tell you that you should tell your parents, but you know them better and probably have a rough idea of how they are going to react. As someone who suffered depression since I was 13, I'd say that you should talk to someone who you feel confortable with and who is in a position to give you advice. A member of your family? school? if not you should phone the samaritans they were great with me. Good luck and trust me there is a light at the end of the tunnel

Were you actually diagnosed with depression? I'm sorry - as someone who was diagnosed with it I hate it when people say they have it like it's a cold just because one thing went wrong in their life. I'm not judging you personally or anything. First, check the symptoms. Educate yourself on the effects of clinical depression and what you can do to help yourself. Then, talk to your parents. They can help you seek professional help through a psychiatrist or just a school counselor.

tell them, tell anyone who seems suitable at your school, just until you get some councelling or help. don't sit on it, and if anyone tells you that you're being stupid, or it will pass naturally, or depression doesn't exist ("its all in your mind" - well, duh! that doesn't make it any better though does it!)......... ignore them and move onto someone with a bit more knowledge and compassion

beware those who immediately want to medicate you up to your eyeballs though. unless you're actually suicidal right now (rather than just a bit low, through the tradiationally tricky high school / puberty patch), that's not necessary and the issues can be worked out by verbal councelling.

Yes you definately should so your parents can work WITH you and not AGAINST you. If you are depressed and they don't know they might think you are acting "strange" or that you are just being rude and take it out on you without realizing that you actually have a reason for acting a certain way.

Don't pay any attention to idiots like 78MB450SEL. Did I get that right? Oh, well. That person isn't important anyway. There's nothing misspelled in your question. He or she is really stupid.
Show these answers to your parents. If they don't help then go to your school's counselors as someone else suggested. Good luck sweetie.

First off, have your parents done anything to make them seem like you can't trust them, except for being your parents? If they haven't tell them. If they have, go to a doctor without them but you should tell you parents, if possible.
