They seem to have more "luck" in life ....
so what did people who are at a severe social disadvantage (like the handicap or people society consideres disgusting or reviling) do to deserve their punishment?

People reward beauty...not God.

I read the answers of others here with some ammusement. Think again if there was actually a god, why would people be suffering and be handicapped. There is no god. God was created by people not the other way arround.

Its sad that people are so scared of dying or whatever that they continue to believe in something that doesnt exist.

I there is a god then I challange him to come down here and do his dammmnn job and fix the problems of the poor the hungry and the sick

~If god rewards the pretty folks, and if it created man in its own image, and the creation of man occured on the eastern shores of the Mediterranean or in the Mesopotamian Valley, why does it allow its only son, a Middle Eastern semite, to be depicted in art over the centuries as a blond, blue-eyed Aryan. One most assume one would try to create beauty if one is going to create at all (although sea slugs and oyster toads leave a little to be desired - but hey, all god's creatures, ya know?). It would follow then, that one's own son would be deemed good looking, right? If so, he ought to be portrayed acurately, right?

The problem with using religion as a cop out for everything right or wrong in the world (the reason man created god in the first place), is that one loses sight of the fact that man is responsible for the world and everything he does with and to it, subject to natural and enviornmental forces.

Anyway, your premise is wrong. Stephen Hawkins and Billy Gates ain't gonna win no beauty pagents, but they do ok. Ever seen a picture of Einstein or Edison. How about Mick Jagger or Bette Midler. Charles Dickens or Walt Whitman? and on and on and on.

Of course, air heads and the simple-minded can be swayed by looks. That's why Jack Keneddy always made sure Jackie was around for the photo ops. And the "ugly" people who are so insecure about their looks that they give up and don't take care of themselves and use what they've got to advantage, doom themselves to failure and deserve what the get.

The handicapped are at a disadvantage because they are limited by their physical and mental impairments. Other than Beethoven, how many deaf people can write music? I don't know of too many blind folks I'd want to retain as a brain surgeon. A paraplegic just isn't gonna cut the mustard in an open iron man competition and Karie Webb isn't gonna play a round even with Tiger Woods.

As to considering people disgusting or reviling, I presume you speak for yourself. Therein might lie the problem. I prefer to let and individual prove himself/herself worthy of my disgust - or my praise, and looks ain't gonna get the job done.

I am GOOD LOOKING and I have seen a many bad an unfair days I have been homeless twice in my 37 years living sometimes it is the choices we make and sometimes we just may travel down the wrong road may meet the wrong people, JUST KNOW THAT you must STAY POSITIVE and stay FOCUS, there is a LIGHT at the end of the tunnel, I KNOW BEEN THERE DONE THAT. I have found that when you GIVE OF YOURSELF even when you don't feel like it this will make you A BETTER PERSON. LOVE YA and TAKE CARE, Things WILL GET BETTER I PROMISE.

I don't consider myself ugly and I am not at any social disadvantage and I have had my share of problems. My seven year old daughter was diagnosed with cancer (leukemia) in January of this year and has been fighting for her life for months. And she is definitely not ugly or at a social disadvantage. God loves us all. Just pray to him and except Jesus into your heart and things will change for you. Don't leave it up to society. Get to know God, the Creator. My daughter just had a bone-marrow transplant in June and she is doing much better. Without God, I don't know where we would be today. God Bless You.

There is a Jewish story that at the time of the resurrection, everyone will remove the pack of troubles which they bore in this life and hang it on a tree and then everyone will get to walk around the tree three times looking at all the various pakages. Then each person will have to pick a pack to bear for the next life. But the really interesting part is that, according to this story, every person will choose the very same pack he or she bore in this life.

Really? Look at those missing posters. Does it look like those pretty women had it so good? Being pretty makes you prey. Or you're expected to put out and if you don't, people think you do anyway. People stay away from you because they think you must be stuck up, when maybe you're just shy. People think you're going to steal their husband. Men on the street think it's okay to be rude to you. People automatically think you must be stupid or a user. People think you're so lucky they don't have to be nice to you. OR, they act like it's some kind of sin, that you should apologize for the way god made you. Give me a freakin' break!

All of us knowingly came from the spirit world in God's presence to partake of mortal life. There would be trials and sufferings, happiness and joy and we gladly accepted the risks so we could attain a mortal body, choose for ourselves which paths to take in life, and then accept our consequences for this life we live in mortality as we move beyond the veil at death.

It was made plain to us that some would suffer more than others because such experiences actually strengthen, rather than diminish one's character and integrity.

God rewards us all for our actions in this life.

Well luck doesn't have to do with God.People were given the gift of free will by God, and they choose to treat others as they see fit. That has nothing to do with God really. He gave us a free world and this is what happens because he was so gracious, people end up using and abusing others they think are not beautiful. In God's eyes, we are all beautiful!!

pretty is as pretty does. there is a lot of beautiful that isnt on the cover of a magazine. sure god loves beautiful things and can appreciate that which we are often too shallow to see. physically pretty people do get some breaks, but these are only things that open a door--one must remember that luck is merely being prepared to take advantage of opportunity, no matter what you look like.

it has nothing to do with God, just psychology. When you or I see a person of great charisma (i.e. beautiful person) we will tend to think they're honest, trustworthy, good, etc. Not only that but we will have a tendency to hero worship them and thus, want to please them.

Put that all together, and the "luck" that God supposedly bestows upon them, is really a result of networking and have people around them who want to help them.

There's not much you can do about it except catch yourself in the act and decide if your preconceptions about someone is based on their looks or their true character.
