How do I run and/or campaign for a city office in the U.S.? (serious answers pls.)?

What forms or anything do I need to register to run for a city office (that I live in)? Also, how should I campaign for it, without hiring a campaign manager or team? This is for a small city in U.S. northeast, with a population of about 50,000 residents.

You have to get on a ballot either by a caucus or by obtaining enough signatures. go to city hall they should be able to help or a democratic or republican meeting and ask there.
