Yes; purring is the initial method of communication between a mother cat and her kittens. Since the kittens are born deaf and blind, they locate the mother by feeling the vibrations of her purring. They also purr for other reasons - contentment, fear, or an attempt to convince another cat that they are harmless.

maybe.... but they purr when they love you and if there in love with another cat it's going to purr. cats don't purr if there alone. they purr when they love/like something/someone

Sure they do.A mother cat will purr to her kittens.They purr when they are lying with another cat.It is a form of communication.
