Sicilia, I didn't "assume" that there was no one who created me (if you must know, my parents created me). Anyway, I don't "assume" this. This is the logical conclusion I've come to. Do you "assume" Christianity, or whatever religion you follow to be the truth?

Spitfire, you're incredibly ignorant. "Why are u athiests so convinced and want so much for their
not to be a God who created us ? Who made us for a purpose?
Why can't you even try and read the bible ?? Open your minds.
You just might think differently......in a good way. You won't
become "brainwashed",.....you will only be fully enlightened." That's what you said. You say "want for there so much not to be a god who created us." I don't "want for the not to be a god", I don't believe in him. You tell me to open up the Bible. I'm only 16, and I've read the Bible and the Qur'an, so don't assume I'm completely ignorant of religion(s).

It is being arrogant enough to assume there is no one who created you.

Nothing. You can decided to believe there is no God. You can decide that nothing will happen to you when you die. But what if you are wrong? What if there is a God, who revealed Himself in the person of Jesus and His Written Word is the Bible? What if there IS a Heaven and Hell (can't have one without the other, if you are a Christian)? You only have as long as you are living to make a decision on this matter. Do you know how long you are going to live? Years, months, days, hours, the next minute? The point is, if you want to be an atheist, you should fully investigate the opposite belief system-- way of life, actually-- so you know EXACTLY what and why you don't believe it. Do you check out all of your options for buying car insurance, hospital insurance, or life insurance? Your eternal life depends on your choice in spiritual things. If I were you, I wouldn't wait until your dying breath to figure it out. Start now by reading a good version of the Holy Bible, such as the New International Version. Be open-minded as you read, but it is really very difficult for non-believers to understand the Bible. If you're sincere in your quest, you could figure it out, especially if you start reading in the book of John, or the book of Romans. C.S. Lewis (author of Chronicles of Narnia) was an atheist. He became a Christian. You can read about his journey in a book he wrote called "Mere Christianity." You can find it in most bookstores or your local library. I can guarantee that it is much harder to be a Christian than it is to be an atheist. But if being a Christian leads to nothing, then at the end of my life, I've lost nothing. If I'm right, however, eternity will be far sweeter than anyone can imagine. For either belief system, it's a matter of faith.

A lot of good answers here, so I can't really say it better than most of them.
Here's what's wrong with being an atheist.
If there is a God, an afterlife, etc. then any person who believes in Him and His teachings will meet Him in the afterlife and enjoy eternal bliss or whatnot.
However, if there is no God or gods, an afterlife, etc., then whether any given person believes in God or no God is really meaningless, because we would just die and become part of the Earth like the lower animals.
I am assuming there is a God and not the opposite because if there isn't, there is no point in thinking about any of this or even living life, other than the insignificant and quickly passing pleasures of it.

StillStanding, I remember the day God died. I felt so empty inside. I suddenly realized that life has no meaning, because God does not exist. It doesn't matter what I do here on earth because in the end, when I die, I wont go to Heaven or Hell. Life is meaningless. So what's the point? Well... I've come to terms, that life is meaningless, but I am here. And I am free to embrace this one life I have to live. I am lucky to have been blessed this chance to live. We are born without meaning or essence, because we are not machines. Machines are created after it's essence or meaning. Before a printer is built, it's destiny is already set in place. Before we are born our destiny is not determined. We create our own essence. We create our own meaning. God was created by man to explain our meaning of life (among other explanations). But there is no meaning.

Actually from time to time I wonderif there is a God, and if I'm wrong, then I'm going to Hell. And the thought of Hell is scary. But I refuse to worship God because I fear Hell. That ****** jerk could show his face, instead of sending good people to Hell for not follwing. Since it is written that he will be angry at us and destroy us because the majority of the world doesn't believe in him, then he must really want us to worship him. If he really wants us to worship him, then why wont he show his face?

The idea of God is an abstraction. Saying you don't believe in God is like saying you don't believe in cause and effect.
The problem is you're just reacting by coming up with a non-reaction and saying it doesn't constitute a reaction (this is teenage mind).
But a reaction to what? How does one react to nothing? By subscribing to it - the atheist stance. So your belief in nothing is a stance - like an anti-thesis. So you believe in the anti-thesis and much is written of it. It becomes a study in itself, a God in itself and style and way of being; an attitude, set of values, culture and dare I say religion; you're right back looking at the rear end of your own statement...So what's been achieve; a thesis has been replaced with an anti-thesis....I mean it's facile. Where does it get you? You'd be better of having a discussion about the nature of reality in all its aspects, including the spiritual and emotional - they exist, can't be denied, just assessed and evaluated.
What are you trying to achieve and will it be more than the great minds of the last century now moldering in the grave or having a discussion with ‘Not God’?
It’s late, just downloading some software and trying to get a point or two.....Have a nice life
God this yahoo stuff is addictive
Say my prayers now to 'Not God'; say one for you too..Bye

i feel religion hasn't given me proof beyond a reasonable doubt that there is a GOD. the bible has alot of things in there that i have to believe just because it the word of God. its like answering the question of why is the sky blue with because the Bible said so. i've heard you need to have faith , but hey i need evidence not just the Bibile. the reason i am atheist is because too many of my questions are answered vaguely by the Bible and the way man interprets it.

The answer lies within the questioner, or the examples that the questioner may use. Someone who claims to be an atheist for the wrong reasons (say, to engage in sexual congress with an attractive other person claiming to be an atheist) is no better than someone who chain smokes. Someone who claims to be an atheist because their life experience and interpretations thereof leads them to conclude that there is no God/dess/es is in the same place as someone who donates money to orphanages because "it's the right thing to do".
Most people who object to atheism do so for the same reason: atheists will rather adamantly refuse to convert to the faith of the objectors.

You have the choice to be whatever works for you. For some people, religion gives them direction, however, religion has no bearing whatsoever on whether or not you are a good person. It's what is inside you that only matters, and how you treat this world.

Nothing wrong with being atheist, but you have to respect others beliefs, same that they have also to respect what do u believe in or what do u think, because that is your own life...

Nothing - I would recommend forgetting all labels and don't define the self by opinions and positions. Just go through life smoothly and don't hold on to anything -- it just reinforces a self-identity that is the root of all problems. Don't be anything.
