I guess the question is whyare you coming off an anti-depressant. Have you told your Dr. because coming off one you should be ramping up on another. You take the medicine for a reason and your statement is true to form - depression

I've been on effexor and was on 75mg then inceased to 150mg too. I didn't find it to help me at all. The only thing l got was insomina.. It kept me awake from 1am to 5am for 3 weeks straight, and like being depressed isn't enough losing sleep is worse. But l stopped taking it with out asking my doc first. He asked me later why l had and l said the voices in my head told me to. (only kidding ABOUT THE VOICES THOUGH).... Nah , if lt doesn't works l say stop. They side effects of going cold turkey go away in a week so. Now l take Avanza 30mg. Don't know how my moods are but it keeps me sleeping at night, with no effects in the morning or thoughtout the day too. Ask your doc about this one?

I love effexor because it made me feel more like my old self. They had to take me off it because I have high blood pressure and it made it higher. The withdrawal symptoms were bad. It was like I would get a full body flush. Effexor is a very good antidepressant. Now I take prozac which is okay. Are you telling your doctor or therapist how you feel? Are they going to put you on something else. If you feel too bad get some support right away.

Yikes. There is nothing scarier than coming off an antidepressent. It sounds like you are weaning - necessary, but painful. I really hope you're working in conjunction with your dr. to get off of it - you can really screw yourself up.
Now, I haven't had the effexor yet, but everything else. They were all terrible. It was sooo hard to get off of them and feel "ok" again - but it is possible. They will tell you to try a different one or a mix of others - but I highly recommend doing everything BUT antidepressants. I think some people were just naturally MEANT to be unhappy. Look at all the miserable people throughout history - most of them famous writers, theologians, poets. Put your sadness to good use. Don't help feed the Pharmaceutical companies. I'm pretty sure they are evil.
Good luck and stay strong.
I won't say that life gets better, but it gets less "cloudy".

Shiit. That sucks. Effexor's been great to me where Prozac failed miserably. I feel for you.

I've heard that coming off it can be very tough. The stuff comes in 37.5mg pills. Get your doc to take you off more gradually. She/he should also know about other stuff to mitigate crashing. Maybe adding an SSRI so that you're weening only off the dopamine inhibitor??? And, if your thinking bridges, think next med instead. It sucks, but diabetes, blah, blah, blah. (Not being flip, just suspect you know the analogy.)

I've dealt with depression long enough to know this most likely isn't the last time I'll be on anti-depressents. Email if you like.

PS, just realized who you are. Good Q&A in LGBT.

I'm guessing it's an anti-depresant, by the look of your avitar. But, no worries, ( except I don't know about the fever part, withdrawls?) I stopped taking lithium a few weeks ago, and I haven't killed anyone yet. Go on seriquel, even a regular MD will give you that. Look it up. Or try something else. But remember, there's no such thing as a magic pill......ps: Don't try to kill yourelf, you'll only end up surviving and end up in jail or the hospital, the one with locked doors.

I hope you will do what I tell you to do, please.
My name is Kim, I suffer with Bipolar, I have had it for about 2 years. I am on Effexor 300mg.(I do not think mine is working either) but I am also on Lithium. Do not do anything to yourself. You need to go to your doctor and get another depression tablet although this will take about 2 weeks to work.
If you would like to talk anymore to me, please feel free to send an email to me. I will help you if I can.

I was on that stuff for a couple of years - until I met my wife, then I stopped, no ramp down, just stopped, no side effects like violence, but then I would never harm anyone in the first place.

if you still depressed you need to get back to see the doc

I went off of it because of weight gain, which made me more depressed. I had nightmares too and told my dr I had to stop taking it. I felt floaty all the time. I went from 150 to 75 and then none. it was a bad experience. now I am taking a low dose of prozac and it helps me some. good luck. go to a dr and ask to try something else. good luck to you. prayers to you too. I know how it feels and it is hard for people to understand. it is even hard for me to understand or explain how it feels sometimes. weird stuff.
