Macondo is the name Gabriel García Márques chose for the village in his work Cien Años de Soledad (100 Years of Solitude). So it is an imaginary name.
However, García Marquez is from the tiny little village Aracataca in North-Eastern Colombia and he modeled Macondo closely after his birth place.
