I was wondering why people feel the need to complain about a breeder and their pups before contacting this breeder themselves? I found a question from someone who did just this about a German Shepherd. This person never explained what was wrong with his dog??? If there was so much wrong with the dog, wouldn't you contact the breeder? If this person is reading this question, the breeder you asked about has past AKC inspection, USDA inspection and zoning. So, please contact breeders about a dog before you decide to post ridiculous comment likes these on a message board.

For the last responder, the person that I am referring to (asked a question here about this breeder and did not respond to my e-mail asking what exactly was wrong with the pup)did get a GSD from a breeder, a very reputable one who OFA's breeding stock, guarantees pups, everthing. So you are the rude one answering this question without even reading through the whole thing! If a dog is bought from a breeder, you should contact that breeder if you have problems with the pup period! I was contacted by a German breeder recently who did not want to admit she produced a Dwarf! I have studied pictures of this pup and it is a pituatary dwarf. Her pup has a double on Uran von Wildsteigerland and Uran was a dwarf carrier. Some of us reputable breeders study the genetics of our breed and care about what we have produced.

I know what you mean, I am a dog breeder myself. I very rarely breed, and I hate placing puppies.
I live in fear that one of the puppies I place will end up having a problem of some sort (owner or health) and need something, and they don't contact me. I do what I can to make sure that my puppies will be healthy and well socialized. I try to make sure that the homes I have match the puppies.
I know any puppy I produce has a home with me at any time for any reason at any age.
How do you find a good breeder? Look for the annoying one that gives you the third degree, makes you feel like you are trying to adopt a baby. Look for the one that won't let you just choose a puppy, but wants to match a puppy with you. Look for the breeder that wants you to sign a long contract usually including clauses like they have to be informed if anything happens to the dog, and if you have to re-home them, the breeder gets input.
The ones that care, do this for a reason. They care about those puppies.

I completely agree with you on this... There are many people who just aren't educated enough and find this as a way to get attention. What makes me even more upset is those people out there who rant and rave about people who buy from breeders (reputable or not) instead of shelter dogs. Everyone knows that shelters have great dogs and some bad ones. The bad aspect about shelter dogs is that they have an unknown history and you never know what they could do or how they would react to different things. There are good and bad dogs. If someone is looking for a specific ideal about a dog, then why not buy your idealistic dog from a breeder.
A friend of mine went to a shelter to get a dog (their family's first dog) for their three children. They picked out a happy lab mix and took her home. Two months later, the dog died from an genetic cardiac disease. This devastated the children to the point that they don't even want another dog... This is just an example that you never know what you are going to get at a shelter.
If you buy from a GOOD breeder, dogs are tested for these devestating diseases and are guaranteed.

To answer your question, people like to complain.
About so called reputable breeders, you never know what your getting. The majority of people selling dogs are ordinary people trying to make a buck. Even if you buy a dog from somebody who has a good reputation, animals are living creatures not manufactured products. They are susceptible to all the health problems that any person can get in their life time. Buying from a reputable breeder isn't a guarantee of good health. Buyer beware. Anybody can build a website and make themselves look like a reputable breeder.
Furthermore there are plenty of great dogs up for adoption, including purebreds. I have a great pit bull that I paid big money for and I love the big guy. People ask me all the time if I want to breed him. I tell them no because pit bulls are a dime a dozen. Every week there are new puppy's for sale in the paper. Next pit bull I get will be adopted.

I contacted the breeder as soon as I came from the vet over 4 yrs.ago because she guaranteed us a healthy pup.
We felt that since he was'nt healthy they should refund us HALF the purchase price since were going to have to pay for surgery.
We were told to PUT THE PUP DOWN and the purchase price would be refunded.
OR Return the pup to them and THEY'D PUT HIM DOWN and refund HALF our money for THEIR TROUBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Since then he's developed other health concerns that any GOOD REPUTABLE breeder would want to be informed of but I would'nt waste my time to call 9-1-1 if I saw either of these people on the sidewalk dieing.let alone call them with a problem with the dog!
I think most people asking questions here know they screwed up buying from a back-yard breeder who only cared about the money and not the dog.

probably because they just want community help first, if that's okay with you. what do you care what way people ask for help? all you have to do is answer the question and politely say, contact the breeder. you don't hav to be a rude jerk. Besides, what do you know of the detailes. Maybe they didn't get the dog from a breeder.

While I agree with you for the most part. it is also good to know who irreputable breeders are. Some puppy farms breed only for the money and to heck with breed standards or the health of their animals. Irreputiblebreeders are partly to blame for the high instances of hip displasia and other back problems in German Shepards and a few other large breeds.

I quite agree with you! I guess some people just like to rant. But sometimes, it doesn't cross people's mind to contact a breeder when there is something really wrong.
