i got 2 cats thinking they are clean and independant?
i did research and almost everyone said cats are great etc etc,
they poo where ever they happen to be ( yes they use the litter tray) but they also if upstairs do 1s and 2s wherever. iam physically wretching when i clean litter tray, they are so sneaky too iam a person of responsibility and would never cause them harm( it goes without saying) but this for the next 15-20yrs?
HELP!

Rule on litterboxes:
# of cats + one
If you have a two-story place try even more.

You do not state the age of these indiscreet felines. If they are less than five months old, it is probably just a matter of reminding them where their litter box is, and just like with a baby, set them in it every hour or so. They'll get the idea. If they are older cats, they are probably expressing their anxiety at their new living situation. Same remedy, but not as often, and with a lot more loving reassurance while you're at it. It is always wise to have a second litterbox upstairs for those emergency potty breaks, too. Soon after, you will discover why cat-owned people are so blissfully happy!

Are you keeping the box clean daily? They may also not like the kind of litter you are using. My experience with more than one cat in the house was the same because their litter box wasn't clean enough. Some cats also don't like sharing their boxes. Talk to your veterinarian. We have one male cat (neutered) that doesn't like to use the box unless it is sifted out at least once a day.

if they don't use a liter box on the second floor, i would get a second liter box for upstairs
if you get nauseous changing the litter, try World's best cat litter. It clumps and it's made of corn rather than clay.
If you still get nauseous around cats and litter, then maybe you should put an ad in the paper to give them away.

Are you cleaning the litter box every day?
A cat will not use a dirty litter box.

Cats are usually very clean and proud animals, i grew up with cats they usually take to a litter try from they are a kitten and never mess your house! However are your cats male or female? male cats will do the toilet in other areas to mark their territory! If that is the case you can get them neutered! Are they kittens or adults? if kittens be patient, if adult you will need to train them from scratch again, if you feel they are too much get them a good home before you get to attached to them!

i have 3 cats, they use the litter tray. you can buy liners for the litter tray which makes it easier to clean . again try putting a second litter tray upstairs.(my cats are nearly 12 and i have loved every minute with them ! they have also made good pets for my 2 young children !).

perhaps there is another issues with your cats i have had cats for 6yrs now and the only time i had a problem with pee was when my male cat had a urinary tract infection get them checked out just in case, another thing you may want to do is while you arent home confine them to one area such as the living room close all bedroom doors, cats cant stand messes so they will be forced to keep the area they are confined to clean then you can start openning other areas one at a time

They are very clean. Get a second litter box for upstairs. And if you scoop the box every day and completely change the litter once a week it won't be so bad. Cat ownership is very rewarding.
