Stress can cause over shedding, but try brushing your dog about 2 times daily. It should slow down in a few weeks to months. Moving to a new place causes lots of stress...so try that and if that doesn't work then I would have to say talk to your Vet about it. It could be a serious medical problem.

Take her to a professional groomer with a stripper. This isn't that expensive. They will strip out the undercoat- which is what they mostly shed. This will almost totally eliminate ther shedding. Another thing that helps is to invest in high quality dog foods. Stay away from pretty pachaging in the grocery store... these are a waste of time, money, and are bad for your dog. It may be more expensive, but a better food will give your dog better health, better coat and skin, less poop, and usually you feed less...
Try BIL-JAC, Pro Plan, Natural Choice/Nutro, Natural Balance, Pro Pac, or wellness. These can be found in Petsmarts and independants... Good Luck!

I have a female black lab who is 18 months old. She was shedding badly too. The vet said to feed her tuna fish (for the omega nutrition) once a week. Also I found Purina Little Bites Indoor formula dog food has better nutrition than other commercial dog foods.

Maybe it's a little warmer in IL. than it is in MI.
- But I would have her checked for Heartworms,
excessive shedding is one of the first symptoms....
plus you should have her checked anyway if you love her.

Check for fleas. I have had dogs that are allergic to fleas in different areas of the country and it has caused them to loose their hair. Also stress will sometimes cause dogs to shed their hair.

the same thing happened to my dog when we moved from Cali to Florida, and the vet said it usually happens to all dogs when they move from one place to a new one, and what it is, is the dog isn't use to the area and will develop a allergy to all the new stuff in the air. you might want to your dog to the vet, they have some pills to help with it.
