Women in the Army have the exact same jobs as men. And yes, women can join the marines. It is a lot tougher training then the Army though.

I cannot speak for the marines but in the army women can have NEARLY any job a male can. I think women should be allowed in the military but only if they can meet the physical standards that the job of the army lays down. When females began serving they lowered the standards for them to be able to join. Women a phyiscally weaker naturally thats a main difference. But i think it is bad for the military to allow anyone to join the army and do the job of a soldier when they are not required to be physically fit. In the US Army females can have up to 30% body fat which is nearly 1/3 of your entire body, and do 14 push ups in 2 minutes, 58 sit ups in 2 minutes, and run 2 miles in 18 minutes. Which is pretty disgusting. I'm not insulting anyone, i know many females that are more phyiscally fit than i am. But to set a different standard for female soldiers as opposed to male soldiers hurts the army because the female soldiers who barely meet the standards are not really soldiers they cannot do the job of a soldier that is why we have incidents like Jessica lynch. Personally as a combat medic if i were shot and i saw a female i knew had barley passed her PT test i'd rather shoot myself than let her attempt to save me. A job should have a set of standards not a gender. Let the best person be hired.

I'm a woman and a former Marine. The only MOS's barred to women are those which directly involve combat.
I was a 2111 - smalls arms repair (armorer), which meant I issued and repaired weapons. I also worked outside of the MOS in the S-4 shop, which is Logistics. In the S-4, I handled administrative paperwork, and other admin duties, but I also spent a lot of time working my butt off. The S-4 shop is generally who does planning and set up for change of command ceremonies (LOTS and LOTS of chairs to be set out), delivers meals to those in the field, does any planning/organizing/feeding etc., needed for the unit. I handled maintanence in our unit (meaning people called me when things broke), when my building needed to be painted, I did a lot of the painting. I also was the armed guard for the pistol range (as needed), and would pick up and delivery explosives for EOD. I stayed busy. During my time in the reserves, I loaded aircraft, and created loadplans.
Men and women alike were required to take a PFT consisting of a 3 mile timed run, and situps. Men did pullups, women did the 'flexed arm hang'. (Though I worked on my pullups until I could do 10-15, which isn't too shabby)
Now - for all you people saying that women don't belong in the military - its time to get out of the stone age!
Its true that there are some women that are 'bad apples', there are a lot more men that are 'bad apples' - but since the women have the stereotype to fight with, any mistake you make is used by certain people as a reason that women are unfit for the military.
I worked HARD - harder than a lot of the men in my unit. I was better at my job, and was the one trusted to 'get stuff done' when the guys in my shop were goofing off.
And guess what - the guys are out there sleeping around too! There'd be problems going on because a guy would get deployed, and his best friend in another unit was sleeping around with his wife. And unfortunately, when you're stationed overseas, the married guys are the VERY WORST. I've never slept with a married man, and I never will. But, let me tell you, those guys would lie to you, hide their rings and such, and it was like the second they touch soil in a foreign place, they forgot they were married!
So - in a nutshell - to be a woman in the military, you really need to be in good shape, motivated, and you might as well just get used to the fact that people will judge you. Civilians who have never broke a sweat will criticize you and come up with reasons why 'women shouldn't be in the military'. Your own brothers and sisters in arms will judge you. You'll be compared to every sub-par woman who has ever served. I loved my time in the Marine Corps, but I'll be honest, it's like living in a fishbowl, and you can't let idiots who don't know what its like get to you.
But if you can get past it, its an experience like no other. I've set line charges, and satchel charges with C-4, I've shot expert with my pistol and my rifle, I've shot a 240G, .50 Cal, a MK-19 (once), I've rappelled, ridden in helocopters, and did all sorts of things that a civilian will probably never get to do.

Women are not allowed to fight on the front lines, but they have a giant loophole around it. Other than that, they have many of the same jobs. They can't be in tanks or subs, but they can attack from aircraft and command surface ships.

They can practically do anything but serve in the frontline, therefore, no infantry or any combat MOS'. They can also do the same in the Marines.
